I'm laughing too hard at the whole "Hey, Zeus!" theory that I need a moment to compose myself...
...ok...
...{suppressed giggle}. Now then...
It is true that false Christians have worked to sully the good name of Jehovah God. In fact, true Christianity is unique in that it has no provision for its adherents to engage in warfare. Those ostensible "Christians" who do so ignore the Scriptures and the teachings and example of Jesus Christ himself.
(Matthew 26:52) Jesus said to him: “Return your sword to its place, for all those who take the sword will perish by the sword
(Isaiah 2:4) They will have to beat their swords into plowshares and their spears into pruning shears. Nation will not lift up sword against nation, neither will they learn war anymore.
(2 Corinthians 10:3-4) We do not wage warfare according to what we are in the flesh. For the weapons of our warfare are not fleshly
(Luke 6:27-29) I [Jesus] say to you who are listening, Continue to love your enemies, to do good to those hating you, to bless those cursing you, to pray for those who are insulting you. To him that strikes you on the one cheek, offer the other also

"Why do some people think there's a god?" That is a great question. Take a look around you, what holds the cosmos up? Look at your bones and cellular structure. Look at the plants and animals and how they are formed and knit together. Now ask yourself do you see a pattern? Eienstien, Did and Sir Isaac Newton did, and Aristotle did. So based on the discoveries of these great minds they all acknowledged that something greater created the lessor. Now you will say or think rubbish! They weren't enlightened men. Because they believed in God. But these same men their mathmatics are taught in schools today. And none of the aethistic minds have been able to contradict them. Also when it comes to science the blood is the life giving element. Go back through all the host of Ancient religions....You never find a book that explains where or what gives Mankind life....Except the Bible.Lev. 17:1 Going onward you find in Ki. where the Sun was stopped for a period of time....again scholars found that to be true. In archealogy and tons of history. The Bible winds up being Accurate and complete. Now as for the Jesus or hey-Zeus, you are correct in your terminology. But in the Hebrew orgination Messiah, Yahshua, God was referred to as Elohim. Not until Ex. 3: 14 did God call himself HAYAH. No other religion can you find its god leading them or telling them to "do thus and so". So in order to correctly refute a topic or subject requires you to delve deep into That same topic or subject. God isn't responsible for Most wars....Man was/is. IT is in the name of god that Man wages wars. What a contradiction the statement you make compared to Jon. 3: 16-17. Where does it honor those who shed blood? IT doesn't! Rather it is the Blood letting of the Messiah That is contained therein. And it was the Apostles and disciples of Yahshuah that was tortured and slain and made sport of. Read the history of Rome. Look at Nero, Vespation, and Domitian read the accounts of Josepheus. And then look at the life of the Messiah. Did He weild a sword? Did He come in Anger or Wrath? When Mankind learns to Love with the Depth like His then mankind will never see the Light of Peace on this side of Heaven. Finally, "What kind of god just wants us to worhip him?" Easy the same God who is mentioned in Gen. 1:1-Rev. 22: 1-21. But for the blind and deaf and mute in heart, soul and mind, 2 Cor. 4: 3-6 has indeed made residence in you.
There were a group of grasshoppers one day discussing this new and strange thing in there path. One grasshopper got on it and said, "I know what I am hearing from all of you. Some say it is a carrier of something wondrously huge that shakes the very earth and creates a ferocious wind when it passes and makes a noise as a mammal dying in greatest agony. And I hear some of you say that it comes by here at certain times of certain days, yet none of you can give me an exact time. Well, in my deduction I proclaim that if this thing exists it shows itself and strike me down Right NOW!" Well time passed and nothing happened confirming in this grasshoppers mind that standing upon railroad tracks were safe!

I think this question shows a lack of respect for other peoples views, as do some of the answers. I have been well educated, I am in no way "simple", but I do believe in God. It is a matter of faith. I believe that God created us to have free will, and that is why wars happen, because humankind make the wrong decisions, they cause this suffering. I also believe that the best way to stop wars is to pray, and prayers will be answered. What I have said is just my opinion, which I have a right to have, just as you have a right to yours. Maybe what we should be focusing on, is not whether there is a God and why people should/shouldn't believe in him, but the fact that in today's world, maybe more than ever, we should practise tolerance, and not think people stupid or ill-educated, just because they have faith

People don't "think" there's a god, they "believe" it. Thinking is rational, but belief is blind. Jesus is pronounced "Hey Soos" in Spanish and has no relation to Zeus. Yeshua is Jesus' real name in Hebrew. Moses' god is Yahweh, not Jehovah. You are wrong about some things but correct about others. Religion was created to control naive villagers, as you say. It has always been used to con money or goods from them. Robert S. DeRopps said organized religion is the world's oldest con game. Gore Vidal said kings use it to their advantage too. If everyone was logical enough to see that religions are nonsense, priests would need to find honest jobs.

It is very amusing to me that people keep blaming wars on the religions. Do you actually believe that if there were no religions there would be no wars?
Humans are warriors by nature, they always want just a little bit more then they can ever have, and so they go to war.
Actually religions have prevented more wars then they have caused. It is only that religions exist that they are blamed.
If the US would had turned the other cheek to Japan in 1941 what do you think they would have done? Canceled their plans to take over the entire Pacific area? Would the Germans have taken England and stopped there? And actually the United States is guilty of something in WWII and that is not entering the war in 1939. By waiting we allowed the Japanese to take islands all over the Pacific, islands that our marines had to take back causing many more deaths on both sides. While we waited to do something, Hitler built the Atlantic Wall, moved into Africa, and the middle east.
We stood by and watched Saddam take over Kuwait and then we acted. Do you think that if we would have let him keep Kuwait that we would not be fighting in the middle east today? Saudi Arabia, then Yeman, Quatar, all of the western part of the middle east and then after building an even stronger army he would have evaded Iran. And after all that was done he would have moved into Lebanon and then Israel. And none of this would have been done because of religion. Oh sure, he would have used that excuse, but then even Hitler, in his own mind thought he was on the side of God. As did the Japanese. As did the Italians.
Religion is used as an excuse for war but still wars would have happened and will until the end of the earth. That is not to say that there have not been wars based on religion, of course there have been many. But most are about power and control, as in the case of Saddam. As in the case of Iran. Iran has stated numerous times over the last 30 or 40 years that they wish to control the entire middle east and put an end to Israel, and again they use religion as a tool, to that end. Religion has little or nothing to do with it. The Arabs and Iran have been fighting wars, tribal wars, wars against Israel, etc. for years and years. They use Holy War as a tool to easily get others to go along with it.

I think you're in a muddle over names. Jesus would have pronounced His name as "Yeshua", the same name as "Joshua", meaning Saviour. When the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob gave His name to Moses, it was a Name which has always been held in great veneration by the Jews and is never said aloud, for which we may be truly grateful, as if it were known then people would blaspheme it. God our Creator seeks us out to come near to Him in love, as this is the only way in which we can ultimately find fulfilment. It has recently been discovered that a part of our brain is designed for worship and it has always been natural for mankind to worship something, whether it be God or something else. I believe that in Jesus God showed the full extent of His love for us, dying on the cross to reconcile us to Him in our sinful state and rising from the dead, breaking the bonds of death and the alienation from God which our sinful nature had produced. I look forward to moving on when I die -- moving on to an even more fulfilling life, more wonderful than I can possibly envisage, through faith in Jesus Christ Who loved me and gave Himself for me. That really is moving on!

Because people believe that there was once someone or a sacred being that ruled the earth and created. People who believe in god and religion hope for the best ,are optimistic and believe that someone out there sees good in other people-and wants to achieve more....I've used the word " believe " loads of times writing this, its unexplainable but true!

Some people believe that their is a god, as it is a comfort to the individual.
Isn't it nice that we all have different opinions, if we all thought the same, we would still be moaning. I went to church when i was younger, as i was made to. Don't get me wrong i enjoyed most Sundays, at Sunday school and then progressed into the church.
Now that i am a adult, i choose not to go to church, but i still do believe that their is a 'higher being'

Since some have given a decent answer to your question, but some confusion still exists about the name of God, I'll throw this into the mix--God's name in scripture also includes the name "I AM". Also, Jesus is actually pronounced "Yeshua", or even "Joshua" and the "hey-zeus" is merely the Mexican pronunciation of their name, Jesus. Not OUR JESUS. And, zeus has nothing to do with it.
