Both. I don't believe one over the other, so I don't need to give a reason, but I don't believe that the nature or substance of God has anything to do with gender. You could proffer opposing comparisons (which one or the other?) forever, marching into eternity, and no different answer would ever be appropriate. Whatever comparison you're trying to make (tall or short?) (stern or kindly?), I believe the answer would always be "both." Or perhaps "all of the above," however many there are. Sort of like the super computer, larger than a small city, to which the space travelers in "The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy" posed the ultimate question: the meaning of Life, the Universe, and Everything; and seven-and-a-half million years later their descendants returned to hear and try to undertand the answer the computer gave them: 42.

The way I see it, God has NO specified gender because God does not have a physical form. But if you don't want to call God an "it", then you should consider him male because God the Son is obviously male and God the Father is male as well. Also since Mary was a women and she became pregnent through the power of the Holy Spirit, I would consider the Holy Spirit a male as well.

It is impossible to reduce God to our own frail understanding in order to answer impossible questions. The Bible says that WE are made in Gods image and likeness. therefore God looks like ALL of US!!! Male, female, Caucasian, African, Hispanic, Asian, etc. I don't believe God is the blonde haired, blue eyed image that we see in pictures! Jesus was refereed to as a Nazarene. People from Nazareth are dark complected. The bible also describes Christ as one of olive completion with hair like lambs wool. I have never seen God, only in spirit. Maybe others have, but I haven't. I believe on the Day of Judgment, that many, many, many people will be surprised to find that God looks nothing like what they imagined. I don't know how God represents all cultures and genders nor do I care! That's why God is God and NOT ME!!!! Good Question!

I like to think that there is a male and female side. Was there some inspiration for the two genders? Interesting, isn't it? Don't get me wrong, I believe in evolution also.

I believe the Divine is both male and female since you can't have creation without both. And if we are all images of the Divine, it would make sense wouldn't it? Especially since no one has ONLY testosterone/estrogen. We all have aspects of both male and female. I also believe in duality and its kinda like the Yin Yang symbol. A balance of both male and female, two separate elements that unite to create a greater whole.
*EDIT* Someone pointed out something I overlooked in my answer and I wanted to clarify.
Divine is male and female to me, it is also both and neither. Part of my religious mythos involves a tale about the god and goddess being one and the same but separate at the same time. The goddess gives birth to the god at Yuletide then they mate by midsummer and she is pregnant with the god again, he dies and is reborn from her again. That's it in a very short nutshell, and probably slightly confusing nutshell. :)
If they are one in the same, like the creatures that can be both genders, it still makes sense to me. And if being both, in fact, makes them NEITHER, it still makes sense to me looking at Nature.
Sorry if that was all ashambles.

if you watched a special on tv the other night......female is nature's "default setting".....that's why men have nipples....humans are females first.....add in some testosterone...and a few other ingredients ....(some get more than others)........and voila! a male!........whatever is on this earth is of god as god.....

i may be somewhat impartial being a male myself, but i believe God is a male based on the Bible. while i do not take everything the Bible says literally, numerous times it says "Him", and that man was made in "His" form. although, the idea of God being male or female is somewhat irrelevant, because as the Supreme Being, He (she/it) is the only one of its kind.

God is God. He is everything. I think it is easier to assign him a gender. I don't think it necessarily means that he is a him. It means we have a limited understanding of his nature. I don't mind calling him a he. Calling him a she would be weird.
