Wow, this is a tough topic. If we're reading correctly, a male friend has been trans-gendered and is now interested in you romantically? I think the tactful thing to do is to be direct and clear that while you may support his lifestyle choice, you are not entirely comfortable with the current situation and that remaining friends only is all that you can accommodate. I would find this to be pretty strange too, but if this was a close male friend before, life is too short to not remain friends, as difficult as it may seem. Hope this helps and good luck.

OKAY....SHE used to be a GUY friend....well..if your not down with that..obviously....(hopefully not)....if he/she used to be a friend, just talk to her/him....don't hurt any feelings...but you have to be honest. Obviously this person has some emotional issues that REALLY need some attention. The best thing to do is be open and honest, and still be a friend. All friendships go through trials....prove your character and be there for him/her. Maybe you'll help this person more than a therapist could, just by being blunt, but nice.
