My concern is not that you can't afford to adopt from a shelter, but more that I'm concerned how you plan on paying for the pup once you have it. He or she is going to need three rounds of vaccinations from a vet, plus a rabies vaccination ad license. It goes without saying that the dog is going to need dog food and some treats. and you also have to take into consideration what if the dog becomes sick and needs special vet care.
I have no doubt that you will give this dog all the love you have and more, but can you afford the expenses involved after you bring one home?
I'm not trying to burst your bubble and I I do wish you the best luck in finding one. I know the shelter where I got my dog, I paid $100. she was spayed when I got her at 8 weeks of age. and her price included the first round of vaccines and rabies license when she was old enough..

This would be a good idea, although this is not the time to find a bargain... this companion will be part of your life for a long time. Search: 'italian greyhound breeders Arkansas' on yahoo. it will come up with a breeders list probably. you can also go to akc.org and see the classified breeders list to see dog breeders in yuor area. there are also some rescue dog websites that you can find on akc.org... you can provide a dog a great home as well as a good price, if that is really your wish. some are free, but mainly less than $100.00! that is a really good price. good luck and give it a treat from me!

Don't go for the free pet, you'll be paying more in the long run. If you adopt from the humane society, in my area it costs about $150, and you know your pet is healthy, fixed, and UTD on shots. A free puppy will need to be spayed ($60-100), Checked out by a vet (about $40 if nothing turns out to be wrong with her), Wormed (Not sure - about $20 I think?), and given two rounds of vaccines (about $100). You'll be much better off paying the shelter adoption fee if money is a concern.

I would hit the local pound before going anywhere else. You will be surprised at the number of animals who are abandoned and for no reason at all. All three of our dogs are rescues, and have proven themselves to be great pups. I wouldn't trade them for anything. Make a trip, and you won't be disappointed. There will be (at least) one that you will fall in love with, I guarantee it. Keep in mind that these animals are marked for death. That in itself should be a reason to visit there first, before looking to people who haven't been so responsible with their own pets in controlling the animal population.

How are you going to provide "the best care in the world" if you can't afford to buy a dog?
If you can't afford a Vet-don't get a pet!

Try www.craigslist.org and choose the city nearest you. Look under pets, and hopefully you will find a nice pet to which to give a home!
