I am a college student and for some reason FAFSA is requiring that I submit my tax return and W2 to prove that I am poor. lol. But, my parents can not find their 1040EZ. I can not get financial aid until they find it! Until then, my school sits on my Discover card. Is there any way to ask the IRS for another copy of it? Or any easier way to get another one? Any input would be great. Thanks.

Na, You just need a transcript from the IRS rather than the real thing. The real copy of the return cost money, the transcript is free. Call the following number for the IRS and follow the instruction below:

1(800)-829-1040

# Street address
# Of transcript
#2
# Year of the transcript i.e.: 2004 or 2005 etc

It keeps going but you get the ideal

Good luck

The info you need to file the FAFSA form can be found on a Tax Return Transcript, which costs nothing and can be attained by filing form 4506T. No need for a trip to any office, just download and mail.

If you need the actual copy to take to the Financial Aid office for verification, you'll have to file a form 4506. No "T". (haha). This will net you an actual copy of the return, and will cost you $36 per return. It will also take up to two months to get, whereas the transcript takes a few weeks. Also, if your parents filed with a professional, the preparer is required to keep a copy.

I've attached links to both of the forms you need below. Let me know if I can be of further assistance.

Okay, your parents are both going to have to go in person to the nearest Internal Revenue Service - Taxpayer Assistance Division
office and let them know what you need this for.If both of them signed the tax form have one of your parents bring both ID's .
