Depending on the company they use, either every 6 months or once a year on the policy anniversary date (inception). If you don't feel like you can ask them directly, and have access to them, the insurance identification cards will have the policy effective dates printed clearly on them.

Some renew annually, some every 6 months. I believe "and such" policies renew every 14 years.

A policy is generally renewed each year on it's anniversary month. Most people pay twice a year though as it is so expensive and they only charge like 2 dollars to defrey 1/2 the yearly cost for six months. If you have drivers under 25, it becomes so expensive that most people have to go to monthly payments and that costs a lot extra.
