1" = 2.54cm
1 cubic inch = 2.54^3 = 16.39 cm3
5.9 liter = (5900/16.39)c.i. = 360 cubic inches.
=> multiply the liter by 1000 and divide by 16.39, this is your formula.

The liter is international standard unit for capacity, maybe that's why they changed.

Although many of the persons answering your question give the cubes on a 5.9 liter, they fail to mention that spark plugs on autos went metric many years ago. The metric system is much easier than the English system.

The gas 5.9L is 360 ci. The Cummins is a cubic inch bigger or smaller, I can't remember which.

360 cci.

I don't see it (site page http://www.mopar.com/muscle/appinfo.htm#) right now due to trying to hurry before I get kicked off of Yahoo Answers from being to slow to answer, but when selling replacement parts or ordering crate motors, Chrysler recommends looking in the Mopar Catalog.
