First do a check. Go to "START" and right click on "my computer" and select "properties". Under the "General" tab it says "System". See if it indicates "Service Pack 1" or "Service Pack 2". If either is there you are ok. If it is 1 you should update to 2 when you get a chance. If it is nothing then update to 2 now. We'll assume for the sake of my sanity that it means Windows XP Service Pack 1.

We are now up to service pack 2, and I recommend that you go straight to that.
