Really low self-esteem is a form of depression.

Identify some things you want to do and do them.

Scott, just look at the answers you have got to your question, there are thousands of us out here who feel exactly the same as you do.So believe me your not on your own darling and your not weird or strange in any way either.Depression is an illness which can be bought about by numerous things. It is'nt something to be ashamed of.I'm so sorry your feeling so low and having a son you suffers with the same symptoms as you I truly sympathise. Please go and see your doctor, there is help out there,it might take a little time to sort out the right medication for you,but at 28 you need to start having some life.As a mother who dreads having a phone call saying my son has taken his life, please don't do this to yourself or your parents,we would never get over the loss.Don't think you are a burden to anyone because your not, I don't know if you have a best friend but if you do,explain to him how low you are feeling in yourself, and that you could do with a little support maybe in going to the doctors. It's a very hard thing to admit you need help, but believe me darling in the long run, when you start to feel better in yourself and start having some sort of life again, you will realise what I am saying is right. You might not feel it,but I am sure you are a much loved son.I wish you all the very best Scott, and hope you will take the advice that is given to you in these replies, there are people out here who care you know! God Bless.

Have you got family or friends ?? there must be something positive in your life. I have had periods where I have felt like you, usually it doesn't last long. If you continue to feel this way you should visit the doctor , there could be medical reasons for you feeling so down.
If there is not a medical cause, then cruel as it seems only you can change your life for the better.
I am sure you are no more ugly than the rest of us in the mornings. You feel like a outcast if you do not make a effort to join in ( it does take effort you know).
Tell yourself every day " I am as good as anyone" believe it ,it is true.
If you keep letting life get you down,it will !!! from now on fight back. Go out, force yourself, even if it is just for a walk. It is strange but just a smile from a stranger can brighten your day. Little by little your confidence will grow, and the fear will go.
You can feel good about yourself, but it is YOU and you alone that must take action, good luck, I wish you all the very best !!!

Sounds like you are depressed. Go to the site depressionhurts.com and take their quiz. Then seek counseling. It may be a big step but it is worth it. If $ is a deterrant. Check with local churches that have people on staff with counseling credentials. If you work your work may have EAP which is a program that gives you a certain # of sessions free.

Get a new haircut or go to the makeup counter at the mall and get them to do your makeup . That can help you learn some new techniques that may make you feel prettier.

You say you have no purpose. You do, you just don't know what it is. I suggest reading the Purpose Driven Life. Great book.

Good luck and HUGS!

Seek help because what you are suffering from is "depression." If you do not have medical insurance then call and find out about your city or state's mental health services.

The kind of feelings you describe are often brought on by chemical imbalance. There is no need to feel ashamed for getting help. I was reading an article today about the fact that there are millions of people suffering from depression but they won't seek help because of the stigma and/or they don't have health insurance that covers mental health.

You can do something about this and I urge you to take the steps to do so. Best of luck to you.

Hello. Okay there are some pretty sick things that happen in the world, but you need to discover beauty. Go and look at a flower, it is made up of millions of cells, how amazing is that, and how beautiful. My children are miracles, we all are miracles, You have to realise that life is amazing and beautiful, and you are to! Why do you feel ugly, this is your life, you need to get a hobby or something and try to enjoy yourself, please don't do anything stupid. You need to start being you. Go out and enjoy yourself, don't worry about what anybody else thinks about you, you are amazing in your own way, and this is just as much your life as any body elses.
You need to think about what you want in your life. Do you want a family? or do you want to do sports? what ever you want to do you have to go out and do it (as long as it is nothing sick!)
Please don't waste your life.
After all you are a miracle, go and experience new things, you never know what you might like!
Go and travel, do what ever you want, and just try and be happy. Think nice thoughts and not bad things.
If this fails go to a Dr and they might be able to offer you counciling, but please don't be afraid to ask for help.
Good Luck, start living and enjoying yourself. Please don't take your life though.
Good Luck again x x x

Make yourself do things, make yourself go for a walk, smile at people and start thinking they are all the same as you, I felt like that after I had my baby as I put on loadsa weight, but I made myself do things....even though I didn't feel like it, You need to get motivation - it won't come to you so you need to tell yourself to go and do this. In the morning get up and go to somewhere you can get positiveness from! if you go to work and don't like what you do - go to the job centre they are so helpful and will be glad to show you different things....find something that used to interest you and do this or see some friends..... YOU ARE NOT ALONE!!!!

Add some more to your question, people will want to know why you feel like this? Everyone, no matter who they are, goes through phases like this so don't feel isolated. I would definitely seek help from someone professional, e.g. councellor of some description. I would also try to have a purpose in life. You have access to net and it is, in many ways the best vehicle to source something worth living for. Know it's not lot of help but as the saying goes it could be worse.

That's how I felt for years. Well except that I also hated myself and often physically and menally hurt myself. And I was a severe alcoholic.
Anyway one day I decided I would enjoy life if I did more fun things to distract from the misery of it all. This sort of works most of the time.

I used to feel like that. Like there was no point in life. I didn't want to get out of bed in the morning. Didn't want to talk to anyone. Wanted to be alone and just die. It is normal to be depressed sometimes, but it is not normal to feel like this all time and let it interfere with your daily life. You may need to seek help, because depression is not your fault. You also shouldn't feel ugly. You cannot judge who is ugly and who is not. But things will get better if you get help. You need to surround yourself with positive things and try to have fun in life. I'm guessing you are young....life does get better, especailly when you get older.

Things will get better, I promise :)
