I'm sure with a gpa of 3.5 will help you, but the training is tough, and many does not make it....picture yourself awake 24 hrs per day for 7 days straight doing exercises for that first week, but the ones that do make it, there is no doubt that they have an elite group of men to get the job done!!!

Wow... 3.5 GPA. That is excellent.

By ALL MEANS, do not stop at a high School Diploma.
Go ahead and get a Bachelors Degree in anything that you like. A BS Degree will enable you to enter the military some ten steps above the average recruit and reward you with pay and benefits far above those of the enlisted men.

With regard to Navy Seals... I cannot think of a more highly trained group of men in the US Armed Forces, though I feel sure some will disagree. To become a Navy Seal is a lofty goal and I wish you all the luck in the world in achievement of this position in the armed services. Few peace loving citizens understand the hard work, conditioning, pain and suffering that one must expend to become a SEAL. I think that I read somewhere that the dropout percentage is around 85 %. So only a few have what it takes. Let us hope that you are among those few dedicated persons.

Good Luck

I would suggest applying to the Naval Academy. If they do not accept you than enroll in a college with an ROTC, get your degree and then go in the NAVY as an officer and THEN go for Seal training. THAT way if you do NOT pass the training.... you #1 have a degree #2 will be a Navy officer in whatever field you ARE in..in the Navy. Officers are treated MUCH better in the military.

Your gpa/act score in high school really doesn't have much play in the military. Have you taken the asvab? That is what the military uses to place you in a MOS (job)? A college degree makes you eligible to become an officer. What is good for you depends on the type of things you like. I suggest taking the asvab and seeking what areas you are strongest in and then speaking with all the recruiters to find out which branch is best for you. Good luck.

Check with a recruiter on requirements for the Teams (SEALS)...

I was a Navy Helo Crewman and occassionally dealt with guys from the West Coast Teams... I've NEVER met a "dumb" SEAL. Most of the enlisted are so disciplined and motivated that they get their degrees in their first shore-tour.

Quite honestly... "intelligence" only carries you SO far in getting through the training... BUDS (Basic Underwater Demolitions School) is the MOST rigorous training in the US Military (perhaps the world). MOST of BUDS is a serious test of physicality, AND overcoming fear, exhaustion, and limits. This SEAL training weeds out almost all but 5% of applicants.

Plenty of fine Rates in the US Navy for bright folk without having to go through that stuff !!

Heck, Rescue Swimmer School was enough for ME !

25% of Navy SEALs have a college degree. You have to score a 50 on the ASVAB I think. Which is a lot higher than what you need to get into infantry. SEALs are far from the "dumb grunt" persona.

I don't believe the seals concentrate as hard as you think, on the cerebral qualifications of a candidate. Naturally, they have requirements that must be met, but they also look for men who are a big cut above the rest. Guys with time in service are important along with superior physical and mental fitness. Each candidate must complete training before he is considered a seal, and frankly, many don't. Keeping up with the grind these guys are put through, is a story in itself.

When I say, time in service, that means they don't look for recruits to fill their ranks. They want time proven sailors and Marines who have already proven themselves, to come forward and try out. Those who complete training are in, and those who don't simply go back to their old job, or are transferred to another location.

kid you ain't too smart, you earn $25,000/year by subjecting your body to near death daily, hanging out with a complete sausage fest. Joining is a sign of lack of intelligence(see statement above), parental love, affection, attention, latent homosexuality, peer acceptance. BTW You don't just join the 'navy seals', you join the navy hoping, along with 100's you will complete and pass all tasks better than everybody, bit cocky we are.

Gaining a degree would be an asset to a potential candidate.
As for choosing to become an operator, Try it, you might like it. Be prepared for dissapointment.
