The first five minutes are the most important. They are usually right. You can tell a lot instinctively, by body language and general appearance, or if you can't see, which some people can't, by voice as well and general demeanour. You probably can tell within the first 5 seconds.

They are extremely important. Things that you subconsciously think of a person during the first 5 seconds determinate your attitude toward him or her. Sometimes it's so strong that no other reactions, words or even deeds can't change it. The first impressions are especially important when you're applying for a job or going on a blind date. After all you never know, when or where you'll meet a man of your dreams, so be always attentive.
It really doesn't matter if they are correct or not - mostly not I guess. They're just there.

First impressions are usually correct, I tend to make them within the first 12 seconds.

I always trust my first impressions and make my mind up in seconds, However Ive been proved wrong a few times so id say the answer is - Not Always !!.

They are correct so long as the person you're meeting ins't a psychopath. If they're a psychopath then the first impression will be way off from reality.

first impressions are not always correct to me you always have to get to no that person before you can make that judgement! it takes about 5 seconds to see someone for you to take your first impression! think of it this way you could meet a really ugly person to find they have a great personality and you could meet a really pretty person to find they have a stinking personality. so dont just judge someone on there looks. plus if you meet someone to me they always seem different to what you firstly meet of you to how they when you've known them for ages!

9 time out of 10 they are and they've probably been made within 10 seconds. Harsh I know but thats why they are first impressions. You're relying on you gut instincts about someone and its very hard to go against it.
