Atheism is simply a lack of belief in God. You might still believe that the whole universe was NEVER created, that we all go somewhere when we die--which also wasn't created by anything or anyone--that drinking orange juice is good while drinking apple juice is evil, that everyone should go to a temple to share and wallow in these beliefs, but still be an atheist.
As for the claim that atheism is a religion, I would say that it is a religion about as much as NOT collecting stamps is a hobby.

An atheist does not believe in a god, and thus does not have a religion. One can be spiritual, believe in a god, but not go to church or be part of a specific religion. I am an atheist, and you can email me for any other information on my views.

Atheist is someone who doesn't believe in the existence of God. If all religion requires the postulation of a God then an Atheist cannot have a religion.

Being an atheist means holding no belief in a god or gods, or any supernatural entity or force.
Technically, an atheist may believe in almost anything else, and may even profess a religion -- Buddhists are atheists since theirs is one of the few religions that does not feature a deity.

Atheist is what you typed above and man do they know how to have fun. The only problem is they have no faith in anything, I don't think. I don't... I'm Atheist. No religion. Atheist is not a religion, its another way for people to say "devil." LOL... because they don't beleive in anything.
I'm hungry!
I noticed people that have a religion have faith, people with faith get motivated easily... they have good lives. Most of them unless they get on drugs or alcohol. But hey who doesn't

Atheism is defined as "without belief in a god or gods". Therefore an atheist is "one without belief in a god or gods". That's it. If an atheist wants to follow the Buddhist guidelines to life or wants to practice Flying Spaghetti Monsterism or wants to take advice from "Jesus", that's fine.
I may not believe in "Jesus" but once in a while I think the Bible has something cool to say. Mostly...... not......... but it's always nice to look for the positive.

An atheist is one who lacks belief in gods.
Some people claim Buddhism is an atheistic religion. If Buddhism is to be considered a religion then you can be atheist and have a religion.

An atheist is a person who does not believe that at least one god exists, or a person who has a positive belief that no god or gods exist.
An agnostic believes that God, or the concept of God, is unknown, inherently unknowable, or incoherent and thus irrelevant to life.

I asked this question earlier today...
http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=Au3_uXJ8HMZOOFAqI104Krbsy6IX?qid=20061001100350AAjOGKt
But from dictionary.com
Atheist (noun)
A person who denies or disbelieves the existence of a supreme being or beings.
It's that denies or disbelieves that throws people off...
But unlike what here and now stated earlier, I do exist. I deny a god exists, it's not a belief. What he stated is a very simple and weak statement.
See, I even have the t-shirt
