Why in the world would you want some beast you have to walk, that is going to annoy the entire neighborhood with its incessant barking. Stinks up your house, hair all over the place, zero peace and quiet - and guaranteed to annoy your neighbors. Personally I'd rather have a pet elephant. Dog owners are remarkably self-absorbed individuals who think of no one but themselves. Cats or birds are far superior pets.

You apparently have met some of those dog owners who give the rest of us a bad name.
I invite you to my house anytime. Well actually my dogs are outside, but you can see that they are clean, generally sweet smelling, affectionate, obedient (mostly! the puppy needs more training of course), loving animals. I keep poop picked up at least twice a day. They do bark occasionally, but we keep in contact with our neighbors so that if there are any problems we can fix them. They all have bark collars which we used for a few nights and now we don't need them--not a peep out of them except when they see the dogs running down the street that belong to a neighbor down the road (he's one of them! grrrrr...hate him!)
I have certainly met some of the idiot dog owners that you refer to, like the aforementioned neighbor. I am sad that there are so many of them. I simply do my best to make sure that my three dogs are a joy to myself and everyone else who meets them. I do my best to care for my dogs as well as I do my own child. I expect clean, healthy, obedient animals and that is what I have.

My dogs bark only command, relieve themselves only in one section of our yard, are brushed and bathed weekly, keep me safe during my morning runs, and spend 2-3 hours per week making an amazing difference as physical and emotional therapy dogs in the lives of our local nursing home's residents. My personal dog and best friend frees up time for me by helping with laundry and numerous other household tasks. It's also refreshing for the neighbours to know that if their kids ever get lost, my dog can track them down by name (yes, he's practised it).

I don't approve of irresponsible pet ownership of any kind and find incessant barking, etc. annoying as well. But to condemn a whole group of people?

you cant tell me that cats dont smell and dont shed, they have a higher tendency to scratch and be viscious. birds are pretty but boring unless u have a parrot
i think u have some nerve catagorizing dog owners as self-absorbed people who only think of themselves, and thats the first time i ve heard it, probably because you are ignorant and an absolute retard.
dogs are smarter and better company, they show the most affection beside a monkey but thats not legal in most places. and most protect or alert for intruders. not all dogs are loud and bark all the time, and not all stink if ppl clean them! Stop bitching about it if u dont like dogs then so be it but dont categorize us just because u dont like them

I happen to be a dog owner and I am not a self-absorbed individual. My one dog is a fully trained search and rescue dog, so that's not self absorbed, I do it to help others who are lost hmmm how selfish of me. My other three dogs are bird dogs, so they help provide food for my family, again how selfish of me to want to feed my kids. and finally if yo think an elephant wouldn't stink, and is not going to make noise and annoy your neighbors, i would guess you have no clue what an elephant is!!!!

WOW,you are RUDE and BITTER

I have 4 dogs, and the actsof feeding, walking, playing, petting, taking them to the vet all sound pretty selfLESS to me, not selfish.

And my dogs live in my house with me, they have been trained NOT to bark at anything BUT strangers on m property. Which is partly why I have them - for security. I always clean up their messes, give them baths when needed - so mine hardly stink.

And sorry little miss self absorbed(which it sounds like YOU are) my dogs DON'T annoy my neighbors. They sleep next to my bed at night and DO NOT wake anyone up.

And besides, I am LEGALLY allowed to own dogs. I suggest you move into an apartment complex that doesn't allow pets, because outside of that, If I OWN my home, I am allowed to have pets in it. SO GET OVER YOURSELF.

Well-trained dogs do not bark incessantly, stink your house and there are lots of dog breeds that do not shed fur at all. I wonder..why do parents have kids??? They make so much noise, throw tantrums, soak up even more time, money. Being self absorbed or not have nothing to do with owning a dog.Stop being childish and biased.

Some of us prefer the company of those beasts to inconsiderate, ignorant people like you.
We enjoy the company of the animal while we walk.If our animals annoy the whole neighborhood that's unfortunate. But we would like to point out that the whole neighborhood is probably full of screaming kids, drunks and drug addicts who go far out of their way to annoy us and our dogs.
Dog owners may very well be self absorbed. But if you want to see how we raised our kids then look at the dog.If it's well mannered and well groomed and has constant vet care and seems happy and healthy then obviously someone has put alot of time, effort and love into that animal and has done the same with their kids.
My house is not smelly nor are my dogs.My house does not have hair everywhere because I have a vaccuum sweeper and I know how to use it.My dogs do not bark without reason. My dogs are far more considerate and respectful of others than any of my neighbors are. They are never rude or obnoxious like my neighbors. They don't destroy my property like my neighbors and they are not judgemental like my neighbors are.
They don't care how I dress or what the house looks like or what kind of car I drive. They don't care how many vehicles I own as long as they get to go too when one moves.
And personally I think the only self-absorbed person in the dog section right now is YOU.
Granted you are entitled to your opinion but we're entitled to ours as well.If you don't like it go away.
I have 2 cats as well as 2 german shepherds IN MY HOUSE.I paid for them.I buy their feed.I pay the vet bills.I clean up after them.YOU DON'T.But just like MY neighbors you're gonna stick your nose in and act like you're SO superior because I don't care to try to keep up with the Joneses. If you buy a new fridge I bet you tell everyone who'll listen in such a manner that makes them think they should go buy one too don't ya?Just like my neighbors.
You're probably poor white trash just like they are.You act holier than thou but have only gotten ahead by getting hurt on the job every few years for the insurance money just like them.Otherwise you'd have nothing.
If you have a cat and a bird now I feel sorry for them cos while you sit in judgement of dog owners the litter box most likely reeks and is in bad need of cleaning cos you're too lazy to clean it every day.But hey,you don't have to use it so why should you care.Birds have a disgusting habit of flinging food and their own crap out of the cage to stick to anything that it happens to hit.A bird cannot be trained to go outside to sh*t now can it?
Go get an elephant if you think you're intelligent enough to handle it.Personally,my next pet will be a skunk which I plan on walking as close to people like you as I can.

i have a dog for protection. no one is willing to come in this yard uninvited. i love to walk him. he is a great companion. he lives outside so i dont have to deal with the hair everywhere. he doesnt annoy the neighbors, well trained dogs only bark when its something important. i can discipline him and he will ask forgiveness. he loves me unconditionally. he is excited to see me when i get home. he is so excited to see me every morning that he cant stand still. lets see you get all that out of a cat. cats are obnoxious self absorbed furballs who could care less if you exist as long as they get to eat and poop. birds belong free, not in a cage.

For companionship. My dog doesn't bark or chew. He is well behaved. There are cats that behave quite irresponsibly. AND, any house I have ever walked into that had cats, STINKS and so does the clothing of the person who owns the cat.
I think you should re-evaluate your thoughts. It is about how you CARE and respond to your pet that makes it who it is.

The greater time you place into work out you canines the fewer they get ill. nutrition is the enormous value. We feed our boxer/pit mixture approximately 50lbs a month of canines nutrition that has a large form of protein (needed) and expenses approximately $30/mo in case you have nutrition attainable, like perhaps your community has a squirrel infestation your canines can feed on (yeah, precise). perhaps you may keep somewhat. yet scraps of human nutrition can bypass an prolonged way. Ours eats the occasional apple that falls from our apple tree, and the apple tree looks to do ok on each and all of the poop the canines provides. it is unfastened nutrition. youthful canines usually have not got many vet desires. aside from spaying/neutering which i elect to advise, which expenses approximately $one hundred-200, and the conventional pictures are yet another $60 or so. Minor well-being issues like infections, wounds, and worms are the main basic. maximum vet visits (a lifelike vet) are under $one hundred and oftentimes comprise a unfastened stick to up examination. you may take care of a form of a 12 months. Mowing the acquaintances lawns as quickly as each week could be greater effective than sufficient earnings to assist your canines. the biggest value of puppy possession is time, no longer funds. looking after a canines, particularly while it is youthful, and coaching it precise is a prevalent job. It provides a solid deal of advantages regardless of the undeniable fact that and maximum folk evaluate it extremely truthfully worth the attempt.
