I would suggest your chum go to the Ministry of Immigration and see if there's a process for extending his stay. Or at least go to the South African Consulate or the South African Embassy to see if they can help.

Whats it matter, we have far more illegal immigrants in this country than we'll ever know, and by the time we'll have counted them all it'll be in their "human right's" to be allowed to stay here anyway.
Tell your chum to go home, england has nothing anymore thats worth staying for.

Become an illegal immigrant like thousands of others. Feel free to be a parasite on my country as thousands of others do. Feel free to bleed my NHS dry and other facilities provided free on the back of my taxes. Feel free to get a cash in hand job and deprive employement to people willing to pay their taxes.

Yes.
If you are legally working in the UK you can ask your employer to apply for a permanent working permit for you. easy

the employer/company must state that your job position in the company can't be filled in by nobody else in the UK but you. not easy.

To prove that, they must advertise your job for a certain time (i think is one month) and convince the Home Office you are invalueble to the company and they would suffer without you (and I don't mean in a sentimental way).

It's used a lot in the NHS, security and creative industry, but can be used by everyone ( and easier for ZA, AU and NZ)
If you have the skills and your employer values you, you're in!
if you flip burgers at Mcdonald...start dating now!!!

It may surprise you to learn that the largest number of illegal immigrants in the UK are South Africans and Australians who overstay their visas. I think you know the answer to your question.

If your friend has an Irish Grandparent (or even great-Grandparent) they are entitled to apply for an Irish passport.
Possession of this document will entitle them to stay anywhere in the EU.
