Well, that's a myth, a story, it was written like that to teach you a lesson....but I don't know if it's a good lesson.

No one knows for sure.

When you mother tells you don't run out into the street there's no explanation generally give, but if you're 5 years old you won't sit for a week if you disobey and she sees it.

How does a mother explain that concept to a 4 or 5 year old?

It's called comprehension or lack of it. Many 30 year olds can't comprehend General and Special Relativity, does taht make it any less valid.

A lot of people here ask why there is so much hate in the world. Why people here are so unkind to others in their answers, why they are mean, scornful.

We simply wouldn't be that way or preceived it, if we had no knowledge of Good and Evil, Right and Wrong, Love and Hate, Postiive and Negative.

Having that knowledge makes us, reactionary.

That's why Jesus had to teach man if struck on the face, don't be a reactionary and pounds back with all you got, turn and offer them the other cheek.

Don't be a reactionary.

Jesus said we had to be like little children. Most children don't concern themselves with the concepts of right and wrong, good or evil. They just play and do things.

A little girl is beat on the rear for pulling her pants down and showing the boy next door what she has. She gave it no thought, so no problem in the matter, but her parents beat her senseless over it and so she now knows she has to start worrying about pulling her pants down.

On the day she gets married she's going to carry som stigma from that early incident.

Who are parents to decide that action was right or wrong.

It's just showing. It's not touching, it's not using.

If you have the time, you can scroll back through my answers to past questions of this kind, and it's all there. But, if you don't have the time, I'll try to give you the condensed version, and hope you do look at my past answers in the future.
God put the tree of knowledge in the center of the garden and told them both to not eat from it. They could eat from any other tree except that one. He wanted them to trust Him for all their needs, and yes, even knowledge. It's like that today. We don't trust our parents to tell us about stuff, so we go find out our own way, which often is the wrong way, and we get into trouble. If we had just asked our parents, they would have told us all we needed to know. The thing is, we often think we need more than we do, and that's what gets us in deep trouble. Trusting is hard for us. We get to thinking that maybe we're not being told the "whole story", so we find out more than we're capable of handling, then wish we'd have left things where they were. Sort of like the girl who doesn't believe her parents when they tell her not to stay out late with her boyfriend 'cause it could lead to other "stuff". Well, she does what she wants, 'cause it feels good, then ends up pregnant. If she'd of listened to her parents, or even to that little small voice telling her no, she'd have avoided a lifetime of problems. God knows what's good for us. He knows our future, as well as our past. Doubting that is what got Adam & Eve in trouble. How many other "goodies" are out there, looking so fine, but now is not the time? We all want to grow up too fast, getting things out of order, then wonder what went wrong. It's our own bad choices that get us in the fixes that we find ourselves. This is a classic story of be careful what you wish for...you just might get it. <*)))><

God put the tree in the garden and told Adam and Eve not to eat of it or "surely you will die". He asked only one thing from them, and look what He gave them in return!

Yet they chose to disobey God because Eve was fooled by the Serpent. The Serpent told Eve that "surely you will not die but be as gods, with the knowledge of good and evil". He changed only one word, yet it made the entire statement a lie. He said "but" instead of "and". For surely they did die, and yes, they had the knowledge of good and evil.

God provided all of his children with free will, but wanted them to remain innocent. I'm not sure if he left the Tree of Knowledge as temptation, but Eve got fooled by the snake and used her free will to eat the apple and there you go.

I believe that story may be a little symbolic. Adam and Eve were given a simple rule to follow which they didnt. They were created by God and he gave them a rule to follow to remember their creator. They were more than willing to follow that rule until the devil entered the serpent and convinced them to violate the rule. Before they violated the rule they had immortal lives but the consequence was death which we all have to suffer now

Notice how they hurried to cover themselve after they ate from the tree of knowledge. They knew of both good and evil....meaning that they had the choice to do right or wrong. They only knew what God wanted them to know before then. THEY WENT AGAINST GOD'S WILL!!!!!

free will can only exist if you have choices. With out the tree of knowledge trust and obidence of God would have been automatic and would not have had the free will element that demonstrates true love and desire for God.

He gave them all the knowledge in the world, but he specifically did not want them eating from that tree. The master or trickery is the one that told them if they eat from the tree of life that they would know more than that of God...which is not true. You can thank Satan for that.

Freud would argue that with knowledge comes the realisation that everything in this universe has a scientific basis. I myself am undecided. You should read Civilization and its discontents by Sigmund Freud. Although most of it seems like the ramblings of a mad man he argues his case however he is a bit mocking of religion and his views are strong. I like the book although I don't agree with it but there we go, if we all agreed life would be boring!
