I figure the kitten should be about nine months old now if you got her in June. Or was she two months when you got her.
At any rate she is just being a kitten and you are probably not used to that behavior as the cat who died I would assume was an older cat and more settled in its behavior.
So that is two important assumptions here on which to base the behavior you decribe. Sounds like spaying should soon be in the offing. When the cat is nine months and upwards in age she should begin to settle down more. They soon get too heavy to climb screens and curtains. Winter is almost upon us so the screens won't be in use, taken down or doors closed.
You just have to love the cat and not let her kitten behavior get you all fussed. Remember - what you put energy into INCREASES, so put your thoughts and energy into the good points about the cat. I'm sure she has her loving moments and you must care about her.

It could be this cat is at a difficult age. We've been frustrated with our cat before, as we adopted her as a tiny kitten. There were times when she was hyper and destructive. We tried squirting water at her, and it did stop her momentarily but it didn't stop her from doing it again later. You might try spraying the curtains (or anywhere you don't want her to go) with a solution that smells offensive to cats. You can buy this at Wal-Mart or Petsmart. The only problem is the spray doesn't smell like a rose to humans either! We also have a cat we adopted as an adult and thought we were going to have to find another home for him. He was found in a trap with some other cats who weren't friendly, and we met him at the shelter. He used to go nuts at night wanting to get out--just wasn't used to being kept inside. After a while he got used to his new lifestyle and now he's the sweetest boy ever! Sometimes it just takes a while for cats and their owners to become acclimated to one another.
See if you can ride out this cat's difficult stage. We have three of the sweetest adult cats right now, and it's so worth being understanding for a while. In the meantime, protect your house the best you can.

Kittens have lots of energy, and at 6 months there is a lot of growth and development going on that is probably stimulating the behavior of this kitty. You might consider using a repellent on the things you don't want her climing on, and providing her with "legal" places to climb and jump - say a cat tower with platforms, hidey-holes, etc. I have 3 cats of widespread ages and they love to climb on these. I put catnip on the platforms and rub it into the poles (carpet covered) to attract them, and use repellent where I don't want them to go. I usually give treats on the kitty furniture, as well. We play interactive games there. After all of this, they seem to prefer to be on "their" furniture most of the time. The initial investment may seem a little high, but if you factor it against the cost of the aggravation and repairs to curtains, screens, etc, it's really not so bd. I hope this helps you!

Yea that can be annoying.. One of my cats did that when she was a kitten too. Just remember she is a kitten and that is there normal playful self. If she is 6 months old she is old enough to get spayed and u can also get her front feet declawed. spaying her will calm her down some and you dont have to worry about babies and declawing her will keep her from destroying your house. Coz believe me its not fun trying to replace everything. She is just being a wild annoying kitten like most baby animals are.. lol.. they still have there instincts. maybe too getting her some toys and those long poles that have the string and toy dangle from them so she has something to play with and u can get her the scratching post and play area stuff so when she gets wild she has something to play on other than your curtains :) she just might be asking for more attention too. animals have there silly ways and since they cant talk we have to read what they want. Good luck and hope all goes well for you and your kitten in the future.

Distract her with a toy or treat and by all means get those protectors for her claws. Also go to Catchannel.com. You can get answers from them too.
