I'm curious about the Nero idea of 666. Is it possible that Nero's name was held in high regard at the time of writing, and the author feared reprocussions of speaking against him?

The book of Reveletions described the events surrounding the predicted fall of the Roman Empire. Most of the events in Reveletion came to pass long ago. If you read Revelation it describes places and events in and around Rome and the Roman Empire.

I think every war, every unrest in the world pertains to Revelations. I have heard so many stories about people giving up their homes, everything because they believed so strongly that the world was going to end and Jesus was coming back. They saw what was going on around them at that time and interpretted it to be Revelations come true. Poor fools, they lost everything because it didnt happen. Many thought Hitler was the anti-christ, they believed the unrest in the world then was Revelations coming true. I could give you plenty of examples where people have believed that the end of the world is very near, yet it hasnt happened yet. I am not a religious person, but what sticks out in my mind is that it says somewhere in the Bible that no-one will know when the end of the world will be. It also says that God will never destroy the earth again because He saw what pain and suffering was caused because of it. I think that was when He made it rain for 40 days and 40 nights. That quote has always made me wonder.....Did God make a mistake because He got so angry and in the spur of the moment made it rain. Why else would He say He will never the destroy the earth again? Its a bit hypocritical really, one minute He sais He will never destroy the earth, yet so much of the latter parts of the Bible talk about the end of the World.

The Bible has never been proven...so I wouldnt worry too much about the "Wrath of God" stuff....just look to what is good around you, live your life as honestly as you know how. One thing that is factual is that we will all find out what the truth is one day. No-one has ever come back from the dead to tell us what the Truth is. So I guess to find out the truth we will have to wait until we die. If your belief system brings you peace then that is all that matters. Dont concentrate too had on the "bad" things, they will be there no matter what. People 1,000 years from now will think at some point that it is Revelations coming true.

Not really! People have been saying such stuff for centuries, and they've used it to predict "The End", but they've always been wrong, and they always will be wrong. I see some people are saying we are in the final days. OK, you people who say that, give me all your money and property, since I can use it for certain, but you don't believe you will need it much longer. I can also make a bet that the world will still be here on any given date, whether you use Revelation, Nostradamus, Mayan calendars, Hindu cycles or any other nonsense to predict the end. Several scholars have said that if one applies gematria to Nero's full name, he gets 666. The verses with that in them have clear references to Rome. People ignorant of Roman history say this stuff is about current events, and they've said that for centuries. If one knows the history of nonsense predictions, he won't be so gullible that he blindly believes them. As I said, Revelation has much about what was happening during Nero's time, not now. Other parts are wild fantasies about things that'll never occur at an indefinite time.

There is another factor responsible for the huge increase in suffering in this century. Coinciding with the beginning of the last days in 1914, something happened to put mankind in even greater danger. At that time, as a prophecy in the last book of the Bible relates: "War broke out in heaven: Michael [Christ in heavenly power] and his angels battled with the dragon [Satan], and the dragon and its angels [the demons] battled but it did not prevail, neither was a place found for them any longer in heaven. So down the great dragon was hurled, the original serpent, the one called Devil and Satan, who is misleading the entire inhabited earth; he was hurled down to the earth, and his angels were hurled down with him."—Revelation 12:7-9. Please check Matthew chapters 24-25 and 2Timothy3;1-5 for a more detailed look at what the bible calls 'the last days'. No! Since the book of revelations was written people have been convinced that they were living in the last times. When WWI and WWII were happening people were convinced that they were living in the last times. War and natural disasters have always been around, it is just that with the advent of mass communication and with the population explosion we hear more of what goes on in the world. It only seems like things worse and worse. Things are actually getting better in the western world. Look at how violent the American old west was. Look at how many people used to die from common diseases that we consider nothing but nuisances to us now. Soon other areas of the world will hopefully benefit from these advancements as well. We are on the brink of a new technological revolution and a golden age of mankind, not the end.

Yes, but I wouldn't worry about it. The same question has been asked during every conflict that has taken place in the Middle East since Israel was restored as a nation. I noticed several times during Gulf War I when the newspaper headlines were a near perfect match for the Book of Zechariah. That was ...interesting. but as long as people continue to ask, it won't happen. It is at a time that we think NOT that all this will come to pass. It's perfectly possible for all of this to take place in about 250 years. I'm no longer holding my breath.

Every single period of our history can be reflected in what is said in the Apocalypse, because it is written so alegorically and it just fits to any age one would choose.
More recently though, some scholars have come to the conclusion that the book of Revelations contains just the author's complaints about emperor Nero of Rome(which is actually ,the Beast) and that certain age.

not just revelations but Ezekiel, Isiah, Daniel. read the entire Bible and your news paper and see how the times are following the last days predicted in the Bible. keep your eye on Damascus, they are a major player in the attempt to destroy Israel. have you noticed that the roads around Israel have been blasted? the enemy is moving weapons via truck to try and bomb Israel with missiles carrying nuclear devices. we are closer to the end now than ever before. check out the site listed below for more info.

Well Revelations does say that fires will come from the sky and strike the twins and it happened. Don't run away with the idea that the end of the world is nigh, it says we are coming to the end of the time of the Gentiles, not the world. So we are living in the end of time now, everything will carry on but in a differant way.

As for me and my beliefs, yes it does. Not only in Revelation, but in Daniel and Ezekiel also. If you have faith and if you know the Bible is true then you should believe what it says. If you don't, then, you don't. Nobody should tell you that the Bible is fiction just because they do not believe in it. Think for yourself. God gives everyone free will.
