regular infantry. They wont let him try to complete airborne school for another year due to his knee. My question is, could this delay his being deployed? We are set to be stationed at Ft Riley, Kansas and I dont know whether he would still be deployed or stay behind for a while due to his knee.
Please dont e rude about this. its a serious question

I was going to be airborne infantry also, but never made it past airborne school. So I ended up serving my years in regular infantry, as a straight leg. I've seen guys deployed with injuries, and some guys never deploy with less serious injuries. The military is a case by case organization so it's hard to answer your question.

It depends on the seriousness of the injury. His commander, in coordination with the docs, will make the decision whether he is deployable or not. If he cannot go Airborne, that alone will not make him non-deployable. I have an idea of which Division he will go to. The best thing I can tell you, from experience, is that he should NOT rush his recovery to impress anyone. He will only make the injury worse and end up having Surgery or some long drawn out recovery process. He needs to heal his body and remember that there is life after the military. He needs to think about the quality of that life. As for the deployment being delayed, it sounds like that may be a good thing for you, but the commander has to make that final decision. If the Airborne training is not directly affecting his ability to perform his duties and the injury does not hinder it either, he will likely deploy on time. Good luck and try to talk him into taking care of his body first.

Im sorry your husband is infantry, I dont see why he wants to be airborn to make matters worse. Infantry have a hard job as soon as school is over for them they are deployed but because he is injured he might not be. When you look into airborn (i did) they tell you the school is very hard and as soon as you complete it you can be deployed in less then 48 hours and because they are in need of it you will be. Im sorry you have to be married to someone who might die be gone all the time or come home with a messed up head. I always told the guys i met in the army who were infanty or airborn why get married your just hurting someone. But your answer is nope he wont get the airborn training until he is in top condition because that is tough training and half the ppl who go in with out problems fail because they get injured.

The docs will most likely examine his knee and make their judgment. If he is still injured, he won't be going anywhere and may be put in a profile until his knee has improved. I don't mean this to sound rude, but the last thing his fellow soldiers need is a wounded man trying to keep up.
