It doesn't necessarily have to be a religious figure. It can be anyone whom you think is deserving of that title.

The only virtue that I like to see on public display is generosity. That would put Warren Buffet and Bill Gates at the top of my Most Virtuous List (even though I have unpleasant things to say about them in other respects).

However, it seems to me that most virtuous acts are little noticed. A co-worker of mine recently buried her father, and she was astonished by the many strangers who introduced themselves at the funeral and told her stories of his kindnesses -- loans for start-up businesses, letters of reference for college applicants, gifts of money and time to widows and people thrown unexpectedly out of work -- of which she and her family had been completely unaware. I believe that this kind of virtue is more widely practiced than we suspect, and rightly so.

The irony is that this man probably never considered himself virtuous; more likely, he merely hoped that he could be considered decent.

Angelina Jolie. She's made great efforts in improving the lives of African children by giving generously of her time and money.

Edit: For Taranto below me...you are correct, and I was going to mention him also. May I suggest his book, An Hour Before Daylight as a heartwarming read, written by a great man.

I for one does not positioned an oz. of religion in a guy who cares extra approximately oil then all of the ravenous toddlers in the international. i might like it if there actual became right into a flesh presser that i assumed embodied God and Christ.. that should be impressive.. through fact Jesus's total element became into to love and be non-judgemental, hate the sin and not the sinner. ... so i don't think of we will ever see one.. exceedingly not one that is going to conflict to function money to his and his chum's wallet or pushes his regulations and factors at what he choses appropriate and incorrect

I can't think of one single public figure I see as being "virtuous", unless it is Jesus.
