Does society ask you to be reserved while dealing with strangers, members of opposite sex etc.. or is it a personal choice?

It is the down pat answer to say be yourself but in reality it is probably a combination of both. For example, you can at any way you want in a normal setting, but in some instances if you cant come out of your shell and talk to people you will get let out of the loop. Conversely, if it is somewhere you are supposed to show respect through silence, you probably shouldn't strike up a random conversation. As for dealing with the opposite sex and strangers, go ahead and be yourself.

That is a tough question to answer.
I have often wondered this myself.. sometimes I often talk to others in public (Texas) and they may or maynot speak back,,so therefore I backoff and stick to myself..

Other times when I am in society and want to make a good impression.. I sort of stay quiet , speak to those next to me, and listen .

But, when I am around my friends, co-workers... I am happy go lucky, talk all the time ... and they have learned to accept me and like me for being that outgoing person.

Will everyone in public accept that? No,, I don't think some can handle people who are happy and bubbly,,,they would think that we are "strange: and most of the time those people are snobby ,and want to open up but just don't have the personality to do that...

So, I say,,,,you have to feel out your crowd first, and go from there!

I wasn't aware that adjusting shyness was an option .
You either are shy or not .
I'm not I talk to everyone , it seems to make people feel more comfortable .

It is a personal choice. You are shy because of the way u think that people project you. If you think that people are more shyer to talk to you than you talking to them it makes it easier to talk first.

You should always be yourself, but with restraint at the proper
times. I mean you don't go to worship and act as if you are at
a football game. But if we try to change who we are then we are
acting a part.

Be yourself.
Unless you live in a country where the religion and culture expect you to act in certain ways

Personally I think that you should just be yourself. You don't want anyone to get the wrong idea about you. If you're outgoing you don't need to hide it.

Just be yourself for pete's sake, that is plently for any of us to do. You are fine and if you are reserved, so be it, that is just how you are, being gregarious is not all it might seem to be.
