Don't target losing more than about 2 lbs per week. If you try to lose faster, your body will go into "starvation mode" and get very stingy about burning calories while at the same time very efficient about storing any calories that you do provide. And it will make you feel awful.

There is no site specific way of losing fat... the old myth about working your abs to burn belly fat isn't true. To get rid of love handles, you need to lose overall fat. That happens with exercise and watching your diet. More on that below.

The most effective way to lose fat is aerobic exercise in the "moderate" fat-burning range, ideally first thing in the morning before you eat. When you wake your body is ready to burn fat and your levels of growth hormone are highest at that time. Later in the day it can take up to 30 minutes just to put your body into a fat-burning mode.

Another overlooked way to burn fat is by lifting weights. Skeletal muscle has very high caloric needs... almost twice that of adipose (fat) tissue. Put on a little muscle and you will burn calories all day even at rest. Be aware that skeletal muscle weighs more, so with this approach you may see your weight increasing while your body fat is melting away. Not realizing this often stresses folks who think they should be losing weight as a measure of fitness. Forget the scale, look in the mirror and you will be happy.

To lose a pound of fat, you need to eliminate about 3500 calories. You can do this by burning more with exercise or by modifying your diet to reduce intake. If you do a Google search on say, "swimming calories" you will quickly find a website with tables of calories burned for a given exercise. You can use such lists to estimate how many calories you are burning up with your routine.

For diet, keep a diary for a couple of weeks counting calories, grams of protein, and grams of fat intake. It is easy with online sources of nutritional information (type the name of the food and calories into the Google search engine) and packaging labels. That will let you quickly figure out where the fat is coming from in your diet.

Fat gives you 9 calories per gram. So take the number of grams of fat, multiply by 9, then calculate what percentage the fat calories are of your total daily calories. Restricting the calories from fat to about 20% of your total intake is ideal for a maintenance diet... that isn't overly restrictive. Of note, you need some fat in your diet. For instance, the body uses fat to produce hormones. Once you have a picture of how to modify your diet, you can drop the diary and just go back to it occasionally if you are wanting to tweek things further.

There is a subset of questions that goes further and asks about "How to get a six-pack?" The answer is the same. Six-packs are 20% abdominal exercise and 80% diet. There is one caveat... abdominal muscles will form in the position that you work them, so be certain to pull them tightly toward your spine while doing crunches, etc. Also, during most lifting, the "core is active" which means that you should be stabilizing with contracted abs then too. Fail to do this and the abs will form, but bulging outward and the result is not attractive.

If you are trying to build muscle as a way to lose fat, then you may need to increase total calories and specifically your protein intake. I target about 0.8 g of protein per pound of body weight each day when actively building. That is far more protein than most people need in their diets.

Most people would tell you diet and exercise more. Well I've got a way you can lose 40 pounds in 2 months. Want to know why! 1. Set Up Realistic Weight Loss Goals. Don't set a weird goal like 10 pound a day no. 2. Drink Plenty of Water. Drink about 6-8 glass of water per day. 3. Chew More Slowly when You Eat. If you eat 5 smaller a day you will accomplish your goal, but pleas don't eat three enormous meal. That would actual get you fatter. 4. Exercise at least 30 minuets per day. Pleas stay away from pills they could kill you, some pills could help but there is a few that do help. If you follow this correctly you will achieve your weight goal.

You need to eat a lot more fibre (roughage)
Eat about five pieces of fruit a day and add salad vegetables to whatever you're having. Brown bread. Seeds as snacks. Bran cereal.
Drink water instead of fruit juice or fizzy drinks. Drink lots and lots of it. Two litres minimum (six glasses)
Make sure you do 30 minutes of exercise which leaves you slightly breathless five times a week. This is the key to weightloss (you may find you put on weight because muscle weighs less than fat, so you shouldn't weigh yourself, judge it on clothes. If they're looser, you're going in the right direction)
Do not eat after 7pm and if you must eat after then, do not eat anything sugary or starchy. A salad and some fish is perfect. Or soup and a yoghurt.
Eat pasta/bread/potatoes/rice at your breakfast or midday meal. Make your biggest meal at lunch time.
Eat breakfast, it makes your metabolism run faster, go for a jog in the morning for the same reason.

Do NOT limit calories drastically. You will lose water and appear to have lost weight. However, you will have not shifted any fat and your body will assume that there is a famine and cling to any fat or sugar you put into yourself.
Do NOT skip meals, in fact I'd recommend adding snacks into your routine. Things like an apple or some carrot sticks rather than chocolate.
Do NOT deprive yourself of treats. You will end up demotivated and sad but just make sure it isn't a "bank balance" treat ("If I run a mile I can have a bar of chocolate"). They make you feel like crud, believe me.
Have a bar of chocolate because it is nice and you haven't had one for a while.
Do NOT eat until you are full. Put less on the plate than you would. Eat it. Do something else, if you're still hungry eat some nuts or some fruit or some wholegrain toast or drink some water.
Do NOT let other people mess with your mind. Some people can be foolish and unintentionally mean when they find out you are trying to lose weight. I say, limit who knows what you are doing.

Remember: more fibre, more water, more exercise. You can do it.

Next time make your intake = your energy output and your weight will not be gained so easily.I hear that boiled eggs and celery use more calories to eat than they have in them. They are on lots of diets. Do not try to starve. That will slow down your metabilism.Eat fresh veggies and fruits and only lean white meat. No extra fats! Eat cheese a few times a week also and skim milk daily.Eat one slice of lowfat wholewheat bread or one wholewheat roll-no butter- each day.No big desserts! Eat one or two lowfat sugarfree cookies at the end of the day if that is when you get hungry attacks! Save them for your reward that you stuck to the diet all day!Best wishes and don't try to get too thin. Tall and big boned girls can carry more weight and look great. My daughter is 5'8" and is slim at 150.

You can certainly lose it fast, as long as you realize that all your time and effort will be a waste of time when you gain it back + 10 pounds. It would be heavenly if we could lose it fast and keep it off, but it's just not worth satrting at square one again plus a few more pounds as penalty. That's the only reason not to do it fast. As they say and we ALL can vouch: FAST doesn't LAST.

Hi there,
The Champ here!

Hey u urself are negating it gurl!

U told that u gained weight day by day as u were bedridden!
U have a large frame (like mine) and u need to reduce it slowly as reducing it fast would lead u to some other major health problems!

Start walking or jogging earli in the morning. Drink warm water with a pinch of lemon in it (about 6-7 drops without any sweet stuff like sugar or honey) before exercising out. If u got a bike ride it as it helps ur tummy to shape up by burning excess fat around te waist line. Yoga will do wonders and dont forget to drink lots of water as it helps in improving your skin texture!

Watch what u eat and try to eat more fibrous food. Avoid ice creams, pastries, white bread as they contain lots of carbohyderates and fats which add to your body fat.

P.S.: Before any rigorus workout schedules, please take advise of a good physical trainer. Also before dieting please consult a good nutritionist.

Take care and Njoi life!!

It is not a healthy way but if you eat just mainly protien and little carbs you will lose weight fast. Eat like a steak and a salad, things like that, no starches like potatoes and bread

The best way is to eat a balanced diet. Check out the new Food Guide Pyramid issued by the United States Department of Agriculture. Diets deprive your body of necessary nutrients. That can lead to many bad things.
