Although I don't agree with the way women are treated by muslims, I will say that most branches of Islam happen to be a very peaceful religion. A lot of what is going on in the world right now is giving the religion a bad name.

No...just the opposite. I "converted" a couple of months ago after alternating between "born again Christianity" and Atheism all of my life. Since coming to Islam I must say I feel stronger in spirit everyday and more able to control my emotions and see clearly the difference between right and wrong than I ever have. I also have a peace in knowing I can not control the behavior or thoughts of anybody but myself. The only scary thing is knowing I will have to account for all of my actions during my life at the end of time which also makes me more motivated to treat all of my fellow humans with respect and kindness no matter what they say or do to me.
All must walk their own path and none can walk an others path or change an others path...only each person can do that. So why would I ever try to "convert" you to anything. Even God can not force you to do the right thing and I am definitely not God.
Peace be with you

hahhah.
gosh, that's just Muslims these days.
But Islam is much more peaceful and tolerant.
Women are much respected in Islam. In Islam mothers are more important than fathers.
There is less domestic violence in people who are Muslim.
Infidels? Kill them?
Only the mental retard clerics who like to misinterpret the Quran for their own uses do that ****.
Even the Phropet Muhammad (pbuh) said to take care of your neighbor even if he dislikes you and is not of your own religion. These days crazy Muslims are chasing out their nonmuslim neighbors.
Hopefully soon extreme-ism will be beaten and the name of Islam shall no longer be tainted.
Take a look at the religion (quite peaceful)
Extremism is an IDEA its not encouraged or supported through the belief of Islam.
They just like to hide behind religion for their horrible acts.
Most Muslims are not like that, but then again there are some physcos out there, but there is a physco or two in every religion.

I wish you will have the chance to visit or live in a Muslim country, you will see for yourself, and seeing is believing. Didn't you realize by now that only the "bad guys get the publicity"? Come on, in the Western-very-civilized world, husbands beat wives, I am not saying it is OK, only do not relate it to ONLY Islam please. As for the one who say "Killing non-Muslims paves our way to heave..." they must be brain washed. It is not even in the Quran.
Muslims do not have the right to force any to Islam. In Islam, God (He is called Allah in the Quran) ordered Abraham to build this house (the Ka'ba), so that people can worship Him there. When people used to worship idols in this house Muslims were ordered to remove/destroy the idols. They cannot allow statuette gods to be placed there. Infidels did not like the destruction of their gods, they were attacking Muslims...that is why war started. It is called Jihad, meaning defending Islam from those who want to wipe it out. This was more than 1400 years ago. The fanatics want to bring back Jihad again….I hope they burn in hell.

Now, I converted to Islam, because I couldn't find myself in catholicism. I didn't just find belief in Islam, but my spirituality. Islam gave me the stability I have now. I feel good.
Violence depends on one's nature, not in one's belief. I've never been violent, and I haven't changed that by being muslim.
Extremist are the only ones that are violent, and they do not deserve to be called muslims, they are the real infidels. Forced conversion is forbiden in Islam, bad treatment to women is forbiden too. Its not agressive, only those stupid terrorist give those who don't know Islam such bad name.
Islam is peace, and if you want to understand in better head to this page:

frankly, when i converted to islam, 25 years ago, one of my precepts was that i can take revenge or seek justice to anyone who do me wrong, not the christian concept "turn the other cheek to be slapped again". But i did not become a violent person. It made me more aware of the dangerous potentials i have and control it. Learning from islam that being more forgiving is more meritous,... but i have a choice to fight back.

not all woman are treated like crap, Algeria has the 3rd largest number of female ministers in the world, you shouldnt generalize, i dont know many muslim men who have tortured ppl to convert them, as far as killing infidels, you are allowed if and when you are attacked(i.e. state of defensive war), for example in iraq or palestine
p.s. from what i hear of the taliban they dont seem like true muslims
