Apparently there is a fault in their alarm system, so if you punch out the small backseat window the alram will not sound. Has anyone heard of this before? I think I may need get a new car!

The alarm is factory. And I live in a major U.S. city, so crime is common. and they only break in to get my stereo. I think its some kids. But they know their stuff.

your 2003 jetta does not have a glass break sensor as part of the factory alarm. it also does not have a motion sensor. they only way to get the alarm to go off is to open a door after it's been set.
if they are breaking the vent window and somehow unlocking the door from the inside, then they are disabling the alarm.
get yourself a nice aftermarket alarm system with a glass break sensor and a motion sensor.

Well it could also be that the scoundrals that installed the alarm are the type that are bad and keep a remote that will disable your alarm so that they (having your address from your records or whatever) just go and break in whenever they want to. I would call whoever installed it and ask them what is the damn problem and that you are very mad. If this was factory installed then you need to set up an appt with your dealership to have them fix this problem asap.
Also, how is it that is KEEPS getting broken into? Where the heck do you live that this would be a regular occurance?
