it is true for some, it just depends on the person. for some people to skip a meal makes them very hungery the next time a meal comes around. for all the idiots that claim the body goes into starvation mode when you skip a meal, this is simply not true. think about it, if that were the case everybody would be fat because everybody skips a meal now and then. i skip a meal quite often and i'm a normal weight. the body only goes into starvation mode when enough fat has been depleted by the cell, your body mass index has to be close to 18 for this to actually happen. anyway if you are worried about being one of those people who are extra hungry when you skip a meal, then replace it with an apple. apples are very filling and really low in calories since they are high in water and fiber

It isn't a myth. Anyone who has taken human physiology can tell you the reason. The human body is loaded with natural protective defenses. Slowing the metabolism when it feels it may be starving is one of them. When the cells of your body don't get a constant supply of nutrients they begin to feel they are being starved. This triggers the metabolism to slow. Then you do eat after short periods of starving (skipping meals), the body tries to hold on to as much of the calories you take in as possible. This is very easy for it to do because your metabolism is running slower. This is not the same as someone with anorexia. They do not eat for long periods, or eat very little so that they don't take in enough for the body to function. The body then uses up all the reserves it's stored and begins to break down lean muscle to feed its cells.

You may not notice increased weight from skipping meals when you are younger because your body has a naturally higher metabolic rate and younger people are generally more active. If you persist in skipping meals as you get older (and your metabolism slows) you will gain weight even if you don't change the amount of food you take in. That's the reason for developing healthy eating habits as early in life as possible.

I see you've asked questions like this several times. If you're really interested in getting facts, talk with an instructor in school (biology teacher), or take a physiology course. I read the answer from the person who told you it is a myth started to stop girls for losing weight by skipping meals and/or not eating. Why would any health care professional want to do that? Doesn't make sense! Heath care professionals are generally paid by insurance companies. Insurance companies lose the most money treating people who suffer from ailments related to being obese, and now lose plenty of money treating eating disorders. They don't want people to get fatter, or lose weight in unhealthy ways. They want people to have a healthy lifestyle that controls weight for the long term.

It's true. There are several reasons, but the biggest reason is, skipping meals slows your metabolism, which is your body's ability to burn calories. Your body thinks it is being starved and slows your metabolism down to sustain your life. Secondly, when you skip meals, you end up binging later and will not stick to this style of eating anyway.

Skipping meals causes your motabolism to slow down. So when you eat your next meal, your body is more likely to hold on to the calories. This is because your body goes in to starvation mode, and tries to hold on to as many calories as it can. Thats why ridiculous diets that have you only eat fruit and drink watar dont work

If you skip meals and starve yourself your body will store the fats to maintain its daily functions will essentially keep wieght on your body. But over time if you just don't eat enough your body will begin to feed off of itself and you will lose but at a major price. This is when you start your journey in anorexia, and your whole body pays the price.

Yes. Because 1) You end up eating more than you should at the next meal

and 2) Your body goes into starvation mode and holds on to that fat.

If you skip too many meals your body will go into "starvation" mode and hoard every bit of fat and calories that it can. It is best to eat healthy well-balanced meals. We have been watching our carbs and using the recipes from a diabetic cookbook and it is working great for us.

Myth. You don't necessarily eat more during your next meal. I eat twice a day and my metabolism works great. I weigh about 101lbs at 5'3''. I look slim and healthy.
