How long did you do the induction part? Did you lose a lot of weight? I have been doing it for a week and I would like to try to do it for another two weeks but it is so hard. I really need to lose weight because of a recent pregnancy and nothing seemed to work so I decided to do Atkins which I said I would never do. Any info would be appreciated.

I sure have tried it! I've been on it almost three years and plan to be on it for life at my doctor's recommendation.

The first week or so is very difficult. Your body is adjusting plus your brain has to accept that you are eliminating certain foods. As you switch to fat-burning it will get easier and soon you'll have no cravings at all.

The most important thing is to make sure you are following it correctly. Ninety percent of people who go on it DON'T. If you don't already have it get the book and follow it to the letter. The biggest mistake most people make is to not eat enough vegetables. Even during induction you require 3 cups per day. Skipping the vegetables is why most people say they don't feel good.

Atkins is highly misunderstood and not a gimmick or a fad. Check the internet forums. There are tons of low carbers who intend to eat this way for life. Some are because of weight loss but many are because of thyroid issues, diabetes or other health related issues.

I lost 70 lbs. in less than a year and have maintained that loss for two years. You can stay on induction as long as like. I kept my carbs at 20-25 for many months. I maintain at 35.

Good luck to you. You might want to check out the Weight Loss forum at About.com. There are lots of low carbers there.

Edited to add... For the record: Atkins cannot damage healthy kidneys or any other organ. That is a myth spread by those who know nothing about Atkins or low carbing and believe we live on eggs, butter, meat and cheese. Anyone who says that is obviously misinformed as we eat more vegetables than most people. How many people do you know who regularly eat 4 cups (or more) of vegetables per day?

3 years ago, I tried the Atkins diet. The best one to advise wether or not it could be any benefit to you should be from your family doctor. I did not like the Atkins diet because I followed it to the tee and it didnt do much for me other than making me feel very tired and giving me bad breath from taking in so much protein. I stayed with it for 3 months and lost only 8 lbs. After getting off the Atkins diet and running and using weights along with eating sensibly, I lost a total of 30 lbs in 3 months. At this rate of losing weight, I managed to continue losing and have managed to keep the weight off. I put down sweets, sodas, bread and was just careful of what my proportions in my meals were along with making sure that I had 3 meals a day and 3 healthy snacks in between meals. I also stopped eating at least 3 hrs before bedtime.....This was the advice that my family doctor gave to me and it worked out just fine...Good luck

Yes. I stayed on the recommended time for induction (two weeks I think it was). You cannot cheat at all, or you need to start over. After about three days, I started dropping a pound a day. The first few pounds of that is just water, but I soon saw body changes. After 20 pounds I settled back down into a more regular diet.

Yes, I have tried it, because I wanted to loose 10 pounds. I personally don't care for it, because there is no variety of foods. I have heard that Weight Watchers and Jenny Craig have lots of varieties of food and you can eat anything you like.

Yes, I tried it and it worked..
You need to read the instructions carefully but it is a good diet..
I don't know if I would use it during pregnancy as it is hard on your kidneys and so is pregnancy...
