There's a big difference between skipping meals and never eating. When you skip meals it slows your metabolism and causes the body to hold on to as much of the calories it can when you do eat. It does this because it is preparing for a period of starvation. It is not a myth, it is a fact of human physiology. When you NEVER eat, your body uses up all the reserves it has saved and begins to use lean muscle as a form of energy.

if you skip a meal and then eat later, you tend to eat more, that's why people that skip meals gain weight, but if you skip meals and eat very little you will NOT gain weight. People that are anorexic eat VERY little, if anything. That's why they loose weight (muscle too).

Anorexic people don't eat, therefor the body eats the fat first for energy....once the fat is gone the body goes for whats next which is muscle, leading to death.

That's not true that skipping meals makes you gain weight. It's a myth used to stop anorexia or body-image obsession. Skipping breakfast for years helped me to stay under 120 lbs until I was 21 years old, but don't get me wrong, breakfast gives you energy and can curb grumpiness.

If they completely STOP eating EVERYTHING and ANYTHING then yes they will loose weight. But the second they eat one thing the body will turn it straight into fat to replace what it lost during the time it was'nt given anything. So that's when they start to gain alot of weight

It's the length of time that they are doing it.
You only need to eat a good diet high in wholefoods and if you are overweight you will lose weight, and get to your ideal weight. There is a good books about dieting the right way to loose weight, one for large amount of weight loss is called Eat To Live.
