Cobalt bearing alloys are often used as the material for cutting tools in the metal and plastics parts manufacturing industry. High (6% Co and up) alloy tools are very tough and work well under high temperatures. They are not as hard or durable as ceramics or carbides however. Some other applications are in aerospace, gas fired turbines and other high temperature applications.
