tell them that right now you want to go either this one guy that you have in mind or if none say you would rather go by yourself. Tell him that you still are not over your past relationship and dont want any for a while, so its best you start depending on yourself instead of others. Let them know you are happy they asked but just not ready to go with them or with anyone in that matter. If they come up to you and ask you to dance tell them that you either dont like this song maybe the next, or your feeling to tierd to dance but when you feel up to it you will ask them.

hey, youre a real nice guy/girl, but i just dont really want to go with you. im sorry.
be prepared for them to feel rejected for a while, but its better than lying and being caught in it, itll hurt them even more.
