Although I love to listen to music, I really have to be a part of it; I have to make music. I do like to hear a recording of the music after my orchestra performs though because it sounds more balanced. When I am performing, I mainly hear my viola part and the horns sitting behind me.

It all depends on the individual tastes and ability.

Listening to music is something everyone can do if they want to. Composing music is not so easy as it requires a musical bent of mind and needs one to continuously innovate and touch realms of music. The saptaswaras or the seven notes, are great tools and can churn masterpieces in the hands of a talented person.

A layman can only learn these basics and stick to listening what is already composed,

So what is better really depends on who is asking this...if you have the talent to make music, nothing like it, just go for it!

Depends on the making of the music. I'll always miss those sessions w/ my older brother back in the day where we would stay up all night (till 3) mixing stuff on the four track and adding drums to bass lines. Hes lived over sea for 8 years. Without him and his music equipment I'd rather listen to the radio though I still mess around on my yamaha acoustic.
