Investigators will use process of elimination to figure out who did the crime by questioning those who knew the victim. A could example of this is how police figured out that Susan Smith killed her own children. When she was questioned and lied about it the inconsistencies in her story made police place her as the prime suspect. Only by the police knowing about the info of killers knowing their victims do they have a good starting point in their investigation
