The same reason snickers are. The companies don't make their products to satisfy YOU. They make them so that the majority of people would like them, and the majority of people like chocolate. They don't care whether some random Yahoo Answers user likes them or not, they just want to make money.

They come in peanut butter if you don't like chocolate, the company made them that way because they assume everyone loves chocolate, just look at all the different candy bars the majority are chocolate such as snickers, babyruth, almond joy, e.t.c., now whatchamacallit is a good candy bar and it still has some chocolate in it even the the majority is not so, you really have to look hard not to get a chocolate candy bar or candies.

They are chocolate because that coating on M&M's is designed so that the chocolate would not melt in your hand. That is why they are so popular. Hold a piece of regular choclate between your fingers for a minute and you will see the reason M&M's were invented.

because they wouldn't taste right if they were lemon or strawberry or carmel or anything else they have peanuts and some even peanut butter BUT they wouldnt be m&ms if they werent chocolate so i hope that answers some of ur question but i dont know what i would do if i were alergic
