No, they don't become U.S. citizen automatically but they think they do and this is the reason why they do it. This illegals will do anything to be legalize in the U.S. in order to get the benefits that being an American citizen get. Is this honorable or what is it. Shameful I call it.

.

No. Citiizenship is derived from naturalization process or birth within the USA and its commonwealths, but not its territories.

Added: Congress can pass a special bill with presidential signing for an individual.

The President can create a citizenship option-invitation by executive order, as did Jimmy Carter when looking at 8 million illegal Mexicans in the USA. He based his action on what he termed an "excessive expense" of locating them and deporting them, yet a special federal agency had to be created to locate them and get them to sign their acceptance papers. The reason is that the illegals felt the offer was not real but instead was a trap to get them to come out of their hiding places and identify themselves.

The fed government ended up spending as much to find the Illegals and get them to sign the acceptance papers as it would have to instead have just used the deportation process.

No not automatically. You still have to go through much red tape and applications to start the ball rolling. You must also prove that it is a bonafide marriage....joint bank accounts; joint rental contracts etc. The new laws state that the person who is seeking to become legalized through marriage must go back to his country (even though he is married to American) to await the approval of his application before he is allowed to be here. At least this is what the Mexicans endure. Most times it is a 3 year wait there in another country being separated from your wife and children if any have been born.
