Yes, it's a star and stars 'die' in supernovas. A supernova is when a star explodes and is wiped from existance. But if you look up in the sky, it will still look like the star is there because you are looking at the light that it sent years ago. Our happy little sun isn't going to explode any time soon. Millions of years from now, or even billions, is around when our sun will die. You might want to worry more about the o-zone layer depleating more than our sun burning out.

Technically, yes, the sun will explode. It's the natural life of a star. Over however many millions of years, the star eventually begins to run down. At the end of it's lifespan, the sun will eventually become a supernova, at which time it will explode. So yes, it will. But not in our lifetimes.

*Note-There are other possibilities other than a supernova, such as a white dwarf, but I am not sure of the definition of this.

yes it will explode in the millions of years from now. But the cool thing is is that for a couple of million years before it goes supernova it will become a red giant. As a red giant the light will encompass earth, the temps will become too great to sustain life, all life on Earth will die off way before it explodes.

OK.......... here's the story... as far as i know. the sun is about middle-aged. in a few billion years, it will swell up and become a giant. when the sun becomes a giant, it will engulf mercury and venus... possibly earth, but i doubt it. the sun will be close to earth, the sun's heat will cause all the water on earth to evaporate, and the temperature will be to hot for life to exist. then slowly, the sun will loose energy, and it will shrink into a dwarf star. but again, this will happen in a few billion years, so don't worry about it.

Yes! It is going to explode. Run for your life to the far side of the planet, or try to find a hiding place directly in line between the sun and the moon! That'll fix everything!

After old star explosion is a chance for white midget occur. Whole other matter will be spread around by explosion blast. Most of that matter will travel far into space. Other will be captured by gravitation by fading white midget and maybe by some planets if they survive the explosion. Maybe you should try finding some scientists working on building such models and programming simulators of that kind of events. Sun will swell and swallow most of planets of its system before explosion. Life will die (if will be there yet) on Earth from heat even before sun touches her, so no panic. Its going to happen far into future. However it would be quite exciting adventure to experience this event no matter... how its sad...

Hi. The Sun will slowly grow into a smallish red giant in several billion years. Don't worry. You will be safe.

If you plan to be around for the next 4 to 5 billion years you might get to see it.
