A learning experience! The joy of simplicity. Also try tiny foil balls (not too tiny, don't want to choke the kitty), water bottle caps, bottle caps. String is not a good idea because many cats will swallow it, though a good sized ribbon (1/2 in) is fine.
& the worlds best toy.... the cat dancer. Curled wire with raffia strung on the end, it makes the cat crazy.

Toys that appeal to humans don't necessarily appeal to cats, and marketing appeals to human notions of fun, since it's the human who has the money! The best toys that I've found for cats are 1) wadded up paper, 2) a laser pointer (they will chase the "dot" on the floor practically to the point of exhaustion), and 3) a short fishing-pole type toy with a string and feathers on the end (even my 15-year-old abyssinian plays with that one!!).

i don't understand ways old your cat is, yet i latterly observed a kitten and have not offered a single toy. A balled up piece of paper presented her 3 hours of solo entertainment as she chased it and batted it around... it then ended up in her water bowl yet hello - she rejoiced earlier that. the different component i've got achieved is tie somewhat cotton around a folded receipt. I then tied the different end of the cotton to a glance after and permit her bat at that. finally, i don't think of there is something she loves extra desirable than an empty rest room roll. There are various scattered around the washing room (her nighttime time room) that she performs with without end. Cats are predators, so somewhat lots something which will inspire them to pounce, chase and stalk will bypass over a handle.

For the same reason when you buy kids $200 worth of toys and they like to play with the boxes they came in.

Because they are cats is the best answer I know. My cat has a beautiful new comfy bed but she prefers to sleep on an old towel in my closet...sigh. Cats are mysterious in their habits and play. Mine has a toy basked and plays with most of her stuff but my yarn is her favorite toy!

its the same for humans. you want the real thing. you enjoy the find and conquer. cats don't like when the owner is shoving a mouse or toy down their throat. they love to find everything on their own. just like all those clothes in your closet that have somehow found their way onto the ground. the cat found something hanging and had to conquer it.

Same reason when you spend $200 on a kid's Christmas present and the kid plays with the box. They're both laughing at you for wasting $200.

toys are meant to entertain the owners. Most cats just prefer a cap from the milk jug, or a paper bag. My dog has many toys, and prefers his knotted clothesline...lol
