When the prize money is say $1 000 000, is it just the winner who gets it??? How do the other players make money? How are the earnings shared/ split?

Normally, the winner gets about twice as much as second place. Prize money goes down more slowly below that, and everyone who makes the cut gets something.

At the Open, for instance, even coming 50th earns you over £10 grand (or more than Tom Watson got for winning the "Duel in the Sun" at Turnberry in '77) - so everyone who's anyone is making a decent living.

The total purse is all the money that will be divided among the players. The winner would get the greatest percentage of it, and the successive players would get smaller shares based on their finishing position. Check the Sports section of your newspaper for results of a tournament to see how its done.

depending on how big the field is IE how many players make the cut.
it is normally down to about 20 or some get money for coming last its all to do with who is the sponser.
