My son is 21 months and was a very later walker. He walks now but has a hard time and falls constantly. He goes to therapy to try and help with his tippy toe walking and running, but he does stand flat footed sometimes. It is so hard to keep shoes on him cause his right foot is turned and all his toes looks like he has horrible arthritis. His pediatrician just keeps blowing me off like nothing is wrong but there has to be a reason. I heard something about birth complication causing this, has anyone else? Or has anyone else seen or had this problem?? His poor little toes make me wanna cry cause they are just so crooked and curved and he always gets booboo's lol (ouchies) on them when he falls and trips. Does anyone know of eve some shoe that help with this? Anything will help....

Talk to his physical therapist about this... she should be able to put you in touch with some companies or doctors that can offer some braces to help straighten his legs out. Is it the bones that are formed in a way that makes his legs curved, or is it the muscles? If it is the muscles, it could have been a result of oxygen deprivation at birth, causing a mild form of cerebral palsy. Go to a different pediatrician and get a second opinion. You can also check out a catalog on the Abilitations or Rifton website, where you may be able to find some adaptive equipment that can help with your son's walking.

This may be financially difficult to do, but I think you should get another opinion from a second physician. This is a somewhat serious problem you are dealing with, and there MAY be something that could be done at this early age in his life. You wouldn't want to find out later that had you known, you could have fixed it. Another doctor may have better information, or at least show a bit more concern and interest in your son. I would suggest looking for a doctor that specializes in feet problems (podiatrist). You can hunt online for one in your area by searching for "podiatrist los angeles california" substituting your own city/state.

Hi,
Have your pediatricians mentioned nuerofibromatosis? Walking on tippy toes and having legs that are not parallel are symptoms. I don't want you to worry, but the sooner the better.

My nephew has this as well. He is a healthy, happy, boy.

Please please go see another doctor. If you have this much of a concern and your health care professional is blowing you off then you con't trust them to provide the best care for your kid. Even if it is totally normal, the doctor should be sitting down with you and explaining why it's happening, how it will go away, and basically doing everything in their power to make sure you understand and to put your mind at ease!
