Yes; chocolate contains theobromine, which is toxic to dogs. While a small amount might not be fatal, it will entice them to eat more (it tastes good to them just as it does to us). The darker the chocolate, the more toxic it is. Also, there is no antidote for this particular toxin, so if your dog ingests it, the only thing your vet can do is admisister supportive measures. The best thing to do is to keep all chocolate away from dogs, so that they never develop a craving for it; if they do ingest it and show any signs of neurological, cardiovascular, or digestive problems, get him to the vet as soon as possible.

Yes chocolate contains a substance which is toxic to dogs it's not the caffeine. Chocolate contains theobromine. A naturally occurring stimulant found in the cocoa bean, theobromine increases urination and affects the central nervous system as well as heart muscle. While amounts vary by type of chocolate, it's the theobromine that is poisonous to dogs.

Depends on how much is given. The darker the choc. the worse it is for the dog. Milk choc. is 60 OZ for a 60 lb dog. Baking choc. can be as little as 6 OZ. Call your vet to make sure-there is an ingredient in it that is toxic-and its not the caffeine!

If you give your dog a lot of choclate, then yes it will kill the dog. You can give them a little bit. I give my dog chocolate once a month, make sure you only give them a small amount.

It has a substance called theobromine in it, which causes increased urination and also causes problems with the central nervous system. Dogs can eat only 1oz per pound of body weight of milk chocolate and be ok...while bakers chocolate they can only eat 1oz per 10lbs of body weight...If your dog does eat chocolate he can become overexcited, hyperactivity, vomitting and diarrhea...In severe cases it can cause hypothermia, muscle tremors, seizures, and sometimes death. White chocolate is the least worrysome of all of the chocolates while baker's chocolate is the worst.

Yes, chocolate has a toxin to dogs in it.

Also, artificial sweeteners have toxins in them. So don't feed your dog any fake sugar. Give them the real stuff.

Depends on the dog, size of the dog, type of chocolate, and amount of chocolate given.

But it does make dogs sick and can kill them.
