yea. seems like youd be placed on the schools debt list until you paid for what you lost.

I've been a teacher for 19 years and have never heard of an individual teacher being allowed to charge for something like this. I have heard of "fines and penalties" for losing items, but they are usually given to the office. Since you are in doubt about this and it is bothering you and your friend, it will affect your performance in that class. You should take your concerns to either a parent, who can talk to the school officials, or to a counselor. If the teacher has the right to charge for a replacement, then you will know that it is okay for her to do that...and you can be extra careful in the future not to lose items that she gives you. If the teacher is not following district policy, then she can be told not to do it again and can learn from her mistake as well. The important thing is to open the lines of communication so that you can trust and respect your teacher again and know what the school policy is. Oh, and your friend is lucky to have you around to help him out.

As a teacher this is unethical, I would have your friend tell the principal. The teacher might be able to deduct points if she told the whole class that would happen if they lost their rubric, but it is unethical for the teacher to tak emoney from a student for something like this.

OK now this question is a very hard question to answer...but i will answer with the best of my ability...It isn't against the law to charge a student for a rubric..it is just like paying too get a copy at the library. But whether or not it was right for her to do that is well...an opinion that you can speak to a principal about.Hope that helps,

That sound like it is illegal. I can't believe a teacher would do that for one piece of paper. Its not like she killed an entire tree asking for rubrics. And the other guy should know that a rubric is like a very generic outline for an English paper or something.

No because its effectively taking a bribe. The student paid to save points. Its no different than a teacher saying, I'm giving you a B but for this much money I'll give you an A. Definitely unethical.

I think that if your friend kept better care of her stuff then it wouldn't have happened. You are a good friend though for giving up your lunch.
She put the money in her pocket but you don't know how much money she takes out of her pocket for you guys. So thank her for that and get on with it. Lesson learned.

Not sure about the legality of the charge but it is an inexpensive lesson when you are using someone else's stuff you are responsible for it. Remember this through life and you will be better for it. Learn from your mistake or better from someone else's.

its not illegal. but it shouldn't start in 7th grade. probably in 9th grade. because it does cost money to copy things at my school. but only 20 cents. and in my science class we have to pay a dollar if we forget our calculator. or we can tarde her something valuable. and then get it back at the end of class.
what i'm trying to say is that it is not illegal it is just that teacher's method.

100% legal, because your pal was responsible for the rubic and must pay for replacement of the object in question or the new one if its hers/his to keep. and just because the teacher placed the money in her pocket doesn't mean she's keeping it for herself, he/she has to cover costs any lost material not billed to a student so even if she keeps the dollar she has to pay for it later anyways......
