He told a teenage this in the book of MATTHEW 19:20-23. the boy asked Jesus, what should i do to inherit eternal life? and Jesus told him in order to be pure, to sell everything he owned and give money to the poor, and he would receive treasure in heaven. The boy ran away from him then. Jesus then stated, for it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter the kindom of God.

A man came to Jesus (a young man, but not a child) and ask Jesus what he needed to do in order to live forever. Jesus told him first to follow the commandments. When the man said he follwed the commandments and asked what else he could do, Jesus told him if he wanted to be perfect, he should sell all his posessions. The young man left in sorrow because he was rich. He did not run away. Someone who is rich may have a difficult time entering the kingdom of heaven because his/her money is more important than the Lord. I don't have to worry about giving up riches. I'm pretty much living in poverty because of health problems. I would follow Jesus anywhere He asked me to go though.

No, I would not. I would ask jesus how come if he is the son of god, he would need little old me to fix the problems of the poor for him. I mean if he really wanted to help the poor couldn't he snap his fingers and be done with it. If he came back to earth wouldn't it be his job to put things right. I get the feeling that god and jesus are just lazy and don't want to fix the problems that they created in the first place. I mean this is all gods fault is it not. It was he who is responsible for his flawed creation.

Jesus knew the young rich man's heart.
Remember you cannot serve two masters: God and Mannon (love of the world).

The young prince ( as quoted in another book) knew the material world was more important to him that giving all away and serving God and gaining eternal life (easier for camel to pass thru eye of needle than a rich man to inherit kingdom of God.) Greed-the love of money is the root of all evil,

The Young man tried to convince Jesus he was a righteous person who kept all the commandments from birth! Jesus knew that no man is capable of doing such. (christ was perfect as son of God in the flesh-for Christ became the word as son of God and of Man)

If you do not love Christ more than anything (including your life) or anyone-mother-father-material goods) else you cannot receive the gift of salvation-eternal life!

While it may be true that one person selfishly having too much money is not a very good thing for society, there's really no need to bring specific religious --- as in "Jesus" --- beliefs into it. Religion causes SO MUCH TROUBLE FOR EVERYONE EVERYWHERE that we have to put that away along with all the other old prejudices and fantasies that just create friction and division among people of the world.

How does becoming a homeless, unemployed beggar really benefit society?

I think we should want less homeless people living on the streets, not more. Doing as Jesus taught in this case would make the problem worse, not solve it.

Actually, it wasn't to inherit eternal life, I believe that changes the meaning of your question quite a bit

20"All these I have kept," the young man said. "What do I still lack?"

21Jesus answered, "If you want to be perfect, go, sell your possessions and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me."

22When the young man heard this, he went away sad, because he had great wealth.

Jesus was testing those who would follow Him. Did they value serving God, or did they value their stuff more than God or each other? It was a test. Jesus wanted to see if people would actually do as He said, or would they think about it and not do anything.

We need to tell this to many of our TV preachers and many of the megabig churchs that have way too much power or money.

They are close to becoming the opposite of what the started out to be.

Yes I would do without any doubt, provided that He (Jesus Christ) never leaves me alone. I will be with him all the time and be willing to even be crucified next to him on the cross. I don't demand to resurrect with him, however. Who Else would you want to spend your time with. Is it not the God who created Every thing. Any body who would deny to do so would be the greatest fool, now that we know that Christ is God.
