I've never liked the decoration in churches because it seemed so out of context with the messages we were suppossed to be learning. Wouldn't a simple building be more fitting of a humble man? A safe haven for all who need it, instead of a statement about the wealth of the church.

there are Christian Churches without any altars. before moving where I am now the Church I attended had no altar and for a long period of time not even a place where the minister stood in the same place week after week. there were times when we sat in a circle and other times in a different formation according to the minister's desires.

I have been in churches with no altar, and very few decorations, and churches with everything you mentioned.
I personally just concentrated on what i was there for.
but if you want a plain under decorated church, try going to a small baptist, or pentecostal church.
the pentecostals are a lot more fun.

It really depends on the church - different religions have different amounts of decoration. Some are very simple, you might like those.

Cathy, it seems your waking from your slumber- in the Last days they will come back to me -Jesus- everything about the Church system stems from the roman empire and babylon- Constine the Roman emperor is the one who institued the cross symbol- people were hung on a tree- not a cross in the old days- but even if someone could find evidence of a cross- we are not to have "things" before God- we shoul honor him not the wood- go to www.israelnettv.com and go to programs- any M.Rood teaching is awsome- DARE YA!!!!!!!

A church is a place that we go to to honor and worship God. The architecture and the design of the building should also honor and glorify God.

You could try the Churches of Christ or a Calvinist denomination. They tend toward more stark surroundings.

If you are more worried about the decor of the church than you are about what is going on between you and God while you are there, you're wasting your time going, anyhow, aren't you?
