Tafsir in Arabic means explanation ,and usually Tafsir is a book dedicated to explain something
you got Tafsirs in many fields in the Arabic Islamic culture
The most important ones are the Quran Tafsir and it is concerning the meanings of the Quran , the explanation of its meanings from example in the modern time we got Shekih Sharawy 's Tafsir ,from the old times we got the El-Galeelen
The Tafsirs of the prophetic Quotes of Prophet "Mohamed" {pbuh} ,the meaning of his words , also the occasions of such quotes, why they were said and so on
also we got Tafsir of dreams of Ibn Sarain ,but of course this is the most least serious among the different kind of Tafsir
bottom line it is an arabic word that is used to any book for explanation

1)- Tafsir bi al-Ma’thur
2)- Tafsir bi al-Ra’yi
3)- Tafsir al-Ishari
4)- Ideological Tafsir
