I'm going to Bangok solo in November and need suggestions for a good, but affordable, hotel in Bangkok. I prefer the hotel to be close walking distance to the skytrain, places to eat, and shopping areas. I'd really like to be near the Siam Center area. Any suggestions? I've stayed in the JW Marriott before several times, but want something less expensive this time, preferably less than $100/night.

If you really want to be near Siam Square. There is the Pratunam Princess hotel 4 stars, and Asia Hotel 3 stars. The price and apparent accomodations are pretty distinct. I visited a friend the Pratunam Princess Hotel, definitely 4 star lobby and my friend said it was a nice room. And the reviews correspond with his view. He was visiting from Hong Kong. USD 94 / night at Pratunam Princess Hotel. The Asia hotel is not reviewed well but, for USD 49 per night. You can live with the complaints. I stay at the Emerald Hotel on Ratchadapisek away from the noise and smell. Closer to the massage parlors, 5 minute walk to subway and 15 minutes to skytrain. LOL I can get it for USD 43 per night. Have a good trip. I will also be there around later November. Good trip.

There's a good small English owned hotel above a tailors shop right on Sukhumvit, next to the Landmark building. It's called The Parkway, and it's a little haven, sitting in the bar looking out over the street. Probably still only 50 usd a night, and the bars and restaurants are probably better than further down the road near the Siam.
There's a good review at

I recommend the Novotel Siam Square Hotel, it's next to the biggest shopping centre and around 3 minute to the skytrain. The room was nice. And you can find very good restaurants near the hotel such as Thai, Japanease, Chinease or Italian. But if you want to know more abut this hotel you can check at these websites;

Try the Novotel Siam Square, good location and my second home.

If you want something cheaper, Asia Hotel is okay, used to be 5 star but have dropped to 4 by now.

Hotels are a rip off in Bangkok. Apartments are much cheaper, but can be a little bit dirty.

Raise this question again as "Apartment suggestions for Bangkok" if you want more info.

Malaysia Hotel, hands down. Inexpensive, safe, clean, good 24 hour restraunt, pool, friendly desk staff. It's about 12 to 14 US dollars a night and is a great deal. Usually inclueds breakfast too., Try it--you'll like it.

You said you're going in November which is high season, so you'll need to check that people aren't giving the low season rate. Low season is April-end October.
