Better vote "Yes" on the proposition which will be on the ballot in November. It will allow all Supermarkets to sell wine.

You see there is a law on the books that prohibits one company from owning more than 3 liquor licenses. Stop & Shop, and Shaw's, for instance, have WAY more than 3 locations.

Look for Two Buck Chuck wine to come to the Trader Joe's on Boylston Street in Boston! Wooo hoooo!

Supermarkets in Victoria and the ACT have liquor on the actual supermarket shelves you do not have to go to a liquor store in a separate part of the store to buy liquor. The only problem with that is if the checkout operator is under 18 years old they cant legally sell you liquor and you have to line up at another checkout.

Guess what, it isn't anything unusual. It is the same way most anywhere you go. It's the law. You have to meet certain requirements to hold a liquor license. They can sell beer and wine with no problem. If you think the liquor stores are omfg sleazy then don't drink. Problem solved.

Super Stop and Shop sells beer and wine in more than a few of their stores. Why do you need a frilly store to go buy your booze from anyway. Not all liquor stores are sleazy anyhow. Most drunk are but that's another story.

It depends on the blue laws in each state.
When I lived in CT, they not only couldn't sell liquor, but they couldn't sell any alcohol after 7:00 PM and on Sundays....*AND* had to cover it all up completely after these times so people couldn't even SEE it.

I would figure the reason they don't sale liquor in grocery stories in New England is because of the laws they've established for that state.
