If you're a hard worker you can! I was a hairdresser for several years and made a decent living at it. I took all the free education classes my company offered, worked as much as possible and gained a very loyal clientele. Get good at a chemical (ie: coloring, perming, or highlighting( that is where the money is. The ones that didn't do well were those who could not keep regular hours, work in a busy shop to begin with, in a good location, and in an area where people have a bit of extra money to burn. I had alot of fun, and tips were great! You'd walk out on an average 8hr. day with $60-$100 in tips alone. I was making about 35-45,000/yr. on wages separately. If you own the salon you even make more money as you make money off the other stylists too. Sometimes 50% of what they make.

Talk to your girlfriend. See how she feels about the current financial situation, and tell her how you feel. I would NOT suggest the porn. However, being a male stripper can be quite lucrative if you have the body, the enthusiasm, and the right moves for it. It could save you enough money to change your living arrangements, and pay for going back to college. But, she needs to be fully on board with this decision and stand behind you. You need to be straight and honest as to WHY this is the avenue you chose to make more money. Being in a sexual career like porn or stripping can cause lots of problems in a relationship. You weren't already in this line of work when you met (I assume), and it could be quite confusing & threatening to a significant other that their bf/gf would now decide to f**k and/or strip for a living. Most people aren't emotionally secure enough to go along with it, and make the relationship last. The long nites away from home, the other women, the jealousy & paranoia.... hope you're getting the idea here.... I must ask you this... if your only two choices were porn and stripping, I find it very hard to believe you would be doing this more for 'her and the kid'... I honestly think this is more of a fantasy of yours that you are disguising as 'good intentions' for others. Sure, you could live out your fantasy... but, question is, do you want to jeapardize the relationship you have now if she says ok, but deep down can't handle it? Oh, and trust me, I SERIOUSLY doubt that she's going to go along with the idea of sticking your willie in some other woman's vag, mouth, or rear end. Married or not right now, she's definately going to have an opinion about all this. Good luck. Get back in school. Your other alternatives are only temporary solutions at best.

It all depends on the location your in the hours your willing to work. Think evenings and weekends. and You can't move around a lot. I was in the business for 15 years and I did OK but when I wanted to be home with my kids more there was no way for me to make any real $$ and still see them.

Tips are the main thing I miss now. Around the holidays I would walk out of there with couple hundred a night. and I was in a budget type salon...

A good hairstylist can make good money. But it is not easy. You have to build a reputation, work hard at it and be flexible enough to listen to your customers and give them the hairstyle they want!

My mom is a hairstylist. It really depends on the shop, clients, ability to do hair really well etc. Since she is off on her own, she does not make as much.

It depends on how well you do. The fist couple of years may be a downward spiral, you just have to build a good clientele.
