Again, the purpose of your education is not so much to teach you facts as to teach you how to find the information you need.

I just looked up "lathe" on the internet, using the search tool right here on the answer page, and got more than 5,400,000 hits. So there is plenty of information out there.

You will do yourself a favor if you will learn to look things up. If you are not sure how, ask your teacher or your librarian.

Thats a strangely worded question. But the lathe is a turning device all it does is turn a part. Once the part is turning you can perform various turning operations on the lathe such as boring, threading, knurling, and turning (cutting down the OD).

It holds something,then spins. Then you can knurl or file or cut. Whatever you want to do.
