You should have received a student aid report and a pin via email or snail mail depending on how you submitted the application. It will tell you if any info is missing. Ask the financial aid office if they have downloaded your info yet. It usually takes a week or two. You should receive a letter from the school letting you know what information they still need from you such as 1040s, signed financial aid contracts, etc.

Usually you'll hear back from FAFSA within two weeks with your SAR(Student Aid Report) for any corrections or additions since it's faster online versus the 5-6 week waiting period if it's done by mail.

if you are talking about the financial aide office at the school you wish to attend,
some schools do not hand out financial aid packages until about march or april. the gov't will only tell you have you might have to pay out of pocket. they do not send you information on which loans and grants you will receive. that all comes from the financial aid office where you plan to attend.

It takes at least a month. But don't worry, if there were a problem or mistake on your form, they would let you know. If it makes you feel better, you can call the number provided on the website to check on your status.
