I see the real problem is nothing to do with race, but culture and politics. Assimilating into the American culture is the only way to move foreward, and that goes hand in hand with doing it the legally.

This problem is two-fold. Poor education on the part of the immigrants, and straight up abuse on the part of the companies that exploit their labour. Let's try to put things in perspective. If someone told you that if you hop this fence, talk to some dude on the other side and you will make more money than staying on this side of the fence. Hell, this is common knowledge... "the grass is greener on the other side". So you're a person, with little recourse left in your current state, what would YOU do. I know I would hop the border. IMHO most border hopping comes from good intentions (I am poor, my family is poor, if I break this little law (which I know I can get away with for a certain amount of time) I can continue to put food on their plate (for a certain amount of time)). And the only reason why these people with good intentions need to resort to border jumping is because of their low levels of education (they often only know enough to stay alive until tomorow (forget about concepts such as savings, investments, stability) these people live life on the edge. Today they eat, tomorow they don't, and the next day they are at the bidness end of a border patrols m-16. Then there is the other fold, the money friggin hungry capitalist that will gladly exploit these people (without ANY recourse, OR remourse). These people are the real criminals (not the immigrant workers). These people are the ones who literally tell the immigrants "Here is a basket, there are the strawberries, You get 1 dollar for every 10 baskets you bring back to the truck". These are the people who use their own prosperity to exploit those who are not. These people are white, they drive big trucks that waste gas, they are ignorant, and they are called Americans. The next time your see a strawberry remember that some immigrant got paid a dollar an hour to pick it for you and put it in that cute little green basket. The next time you eat ANY vegatable, you remember that an american paid an illegal immigrant 1 dollar / HOUR for it to show up on your kitchen counter. HELL the next time you see an immigrant why don't you just shove it in their face how stupid they are, and how much they are screwing over 'your land'. **** IT, the next time you see an illegal immigrant, why don't you take your shotgun of the rack and do us all a favour and shoot him (and then yourself), it is WELL within your rights. Speaking of rights, do you think it is their (the capitalist) right to exploit these people... and do you think its their right (the immigrants) to be able to do whatever it takes to put something in their crying babies mouth?

The roots are in political policy that has allowed a very large group of hispanics, legal immigrants, and illegal, to come to the US within a short period of time.

If it really bothers you, I suggest you move to a different part of town, or even a different part of the country where there are not so many Hispanics.

Um, I see it as economics. We provide free education and social services for our poor that our immediate and more remote southern neighbors don't provide for their poor, and so they come illegally to get them, which drains funding for services for our own people.

Once here it is true that culture clash, and overwhelming of the indigenous culture, can become an issue.

DAR: you have it completely wrong. For one thing, Mexicans don't need to go to US for healthcare or education. They have better here in Mexico. Most of them go there to work and earn money.
They would not be able to get welfare or other benefits because of the extreme difficulty in proving you are eligable for them and they would be too afraid of being caught by la migra if they applied.
I'm talking here about the average Mexican who goes to the US, not the criminals who make up a small minority.
