It diminishes the biodiversity of the planet.
Every living creature is a resource. It may hold the secrets to produce new special products or to fight illnesses.
On top of that any extinction will alter the balance between predators and preys in a given echo-system, which becomes more fragile when the number of species diminishes.

the biosphere is a complex web of interaction between every living thing.everthing feeds on something and is eaten by something else and everyhing has a niche or a function in this web of life.so the negative effects of extinction would be that what ever it eat will over breed and and deplete available resourses until the balance is restored and what ever eats it will have reduced resources and suffer a reduction of number to the amount that the enviroment can support and so on and so forth.
the effects will echo to all other living things in a complex interaction of dependence.

Each plant and animal leaves its mark on the earth somehow, so it is impossible to get rid of something without it affecting something else. For instance, spiders eat bugs, so without spiders the bugs would overrun everything! And I kill spiders, so if they were to disappear I'd have nothing to scream at when I get in the shower!
