i have a boxer which is one year old. he is a good dog in general but he chews things. especially a night or when he is alone. therefore i invested in a large cage for him to go in at night or when im out. he was ok with it at first but now he has started to wee and poo in it. the other morning i came down and he was sat in his own urine. i always thought dogs werent suppose to do that. even if i keep him out of the cage he does the same on the floor. how can i stop him doing it. ?

my dog only ever does anything when im not around. i dont use kenneling as a punishment just to keep him in whilst im out. i take him out for regular walks and he will do something then and i praise him a great deal i just dont know what to do if i dont catch him doing it.

chewing is something you have to break him on, get him lots of toys that he can chew on and pig ears, those they like when you see him chew on something smack his nose and say no if he does it again take him to his kennel and leave him there for about fifteen minutes, when you let him out take him right outside even if he just went. This way you are teaching him potty training too. Try you keep him in his kennel when you are around too, and take him out every half hour until he starts holding the pee better,

How much and how often are you feeding him? Sometimes making adjustments MIGHT help.

Are you feeding your puppy just before putting him in the kennel? Perhaps he cannot "hold" it until morning.

You didn't say whether or not you had a yard. Maybe your puppy needs to be an "outside" boy for awhile.

As far as chewing, young dogs are constantly testing out their "new" teeth. He may need some good rubber chew toys like "KONGS" to play with, so he can exercise those powerful jaws that the breed has. You might also consider having a vet check out his teeth just to make sure that they are growing okay, Boxers are known to have dental problems, in as far as how the teeth close properly together.

Most dogs will not "soil" the place where they spend a lot of time, however, I have personally owned some dogs that just would NOT house-break. One of my favorite female Dobies, she was perfect in the house except for her "accidents" which happended whenever and where ever she felt like it.
I tried everything that I knew: the pee pads, newspaper, that smelly fluid that is supposed to help them toilet train. Taking her outside every 15 minutes (which got ridiculous), I even didn't feed her for a day. I NEVER hit her or rubbed her nose in it, though. But nothing worked. So she had to become an outside dog. I think I was more sad than she was, but it all worked out. She is a great dog, just not an indoor girl.
Good Luck.

This is the age old question. No single set of rules will really apply. When the dog pees or poops in the house (and you see him to it) get over to him, scold put his nose in it (not all the way just so he can smell it) that put him outside on a chain. As far as kennelling (the cage) ((dont call it that)), it tough but DO NOT use it as a punishment if you ever want him to stay in it. I say this with confidence as I'm doing it right now and its working! Good luck.

try to teach him how to go outside if he already does that then u need to put him it time out like in a room sit him down and say ''NO'' in a firm voice and as far as the chewing he probably need a soft on the out side but hard on the inside toy his teeth are probably hurting him but he'll get over it
