A compass.
It helps me to know where the sun sets and where it rises, it is important for a spy, I can't tell you more, it's on a need to know bases, there are other things but I am sworn to the official secrets act.

Digital camera, if that counts as a gadget. Posting listings on eBay would be an extremely slow process (or pictureless) without it!
